Children's Playhouse of MD (CPM), in residence at CCBC Essex, proudly presents Once On This Island, Jr. The show is based on the novel, "My Love, My Love" by Rosa Guy. This production features 41 student actors from Baltimore City, Baltimore County and Harford County.

Nyani Hawkins of Baltimore appears as Ti Moune, with Kevin Franiak of Nottingham as Daniel. Also featured are Catie Zimmer of Baltimore as Papa Ge (God of Death), Anderson Gray of Parkville as Agwe (God of Water), and Dersha Horrey of Dundalk as Asaka (God of Earth).

Liz Boyer Hunnicutt directs this production, with musical direction by Charlotte Evans and choreography by James Hunnicutt.

Inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid, Once On This Island, Jr. tells the tale of an island divided between the peasants, whose lives are ruled by powerful gods, and the wealthy, who are in charge. These worlds collide when Ti Moune, a peasant girl, saves Daniel, a wealthy youth, from a car crash on a dark and rainy road. She pledges her life to spare his, as she has fallen in love with him. As the storytellers narrate, Ti Moune follows Daniel's family against the advice of her community, which fears her rejection. What will become of Ti Moune? Will the gods intervene? Once On This Island, Jr. is a timely story of love in a world of prejudice.

From the opening number We Dance through Mama Will Provide to Why We Tell The Story, fabulous Caribbean dance numbers will have the whole family on their feet.
