Out Front Theatre Company Stages Innovative Production Of I AM MY OWN WIFE

In line with its commitment to tell the stories of the LGBTQIA+ community, Out Front Theatre Company will stage the first professional production of I Am My Own Wife featuring a trans/gender nonconforming performer - Peter Smith - as all 35 characters, March 14-30. The notable casting move is one the Atlanta theater has made to not only reflect the integrity of the community, but also to hold true to the design of the play itself - as all previous performances have traditionally featured only cisgender male actors.

The Pulitzer and Tony Award winning play is based on the true story of the life of Charlotte Von Mahlsdorf, a trans/gender nonconforming woman who survived living in Berlin during both Nazi and Stasi control, collecting antique furniture for her museum. It is simultaneously the journey of playwright Doug Wright in his search to represent Charlotte in her fullest truth, inspired by interviews he conducted over the course of several years. Full of thought-provoking depth and admirable strength, I Am My Own Wife will both inspire and illuminate audiences!
