Internationally Acclaimed RANKY TANKY To Perform In Roswell

With a sound that has been called "soulful honey to the ears" by NPR, Roswell is proud to welcome the chart-topping band Ranky Tanky. The group is set to perform pieces from their namesake album, which reached the #1 position on the Billboard, iTunes, and Amazon Jazz Charts. Ranky Tanky has toured extensively over the past year, including the Monterey Jazz Festival, Edinburgh Jazz and Blues, Carnegie Hall Presents, Lincoln Center Education, and the World Music Expo. The group brings their unique sound and rousing performance style to the Roswell Cultural Arts Center as part of the Roswell Roots Festival and LIVE! in Roswell Series on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 8 p.m.

The band takes their name and their inspiration from the timeless music of the Gullah culture, born in the southeastern coastal region of the United States. "Ranky Tanky" translates loosely as "Work It," or "Get Funky!" and "Gullah" comes from West African language, meaning "a people blessed by God." Ranky Tanky's inspiring performances celebrate the soulful music of the Gullah culture that introduced such indelible parts of the American songbook as "Kum Bah Yah" and "Michael Rowed the Boat Ashore." From playful game songs to ecstatic shouts, from heartbreaking spirituals to delicate lullabies, updated with gospel vocals, jazz trumpet solos, and an R&B rhythm section, this one-of-a-kind performance is not to be missed!

Tickets are $30 can be purchased at RoswellCAC.com. Discounts for Seniors, Students, and Military are available in person or by calling 770-594-6232. The Roswell Cultural Arts Center is located at 950 Forrest Street in Roswell, Georgia 30075.

The LIVE! in Roswell Series is presented by Gate City Brewing Company and Carl Black Roswell. It is sponsored by The Current Hub, Appen Media Group, Hilbert Law, Roswell Magazine, North Fulton Family Life Publications, and Rubicon Studios.
