Cyndi Lauper Will Return to Her University in Vermont to Give Commencement Address

Cyndi Lauper is set to return to her University to give its commencement address, according to Page Six.

The singer, songwriter, and activist will return to Northern Vermont University-Johnson on May 18 to deliver the address.

Lauper attended what was then known as Johnson State College in the 1970s. At this ceremony, Lauper will be awarded an honorary doctorate of letters.

Lauper is known in the Broadway community as the Tony Award-winning writer of the music and lyrics of Kinky Boots. She is also a Grammy and Emmy winner. With her first album, She's So Unusual, Lauper won a Grammy Award for Best New Artist and became the first female in history to have four top-five singles from a debut album. Since then, Lauper has released ten additional studio albums and was recently inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Overall, during her storied music career, Lauper has been nominated for 15 Grammy Awards, two American Music Awards, seven American Video Awards and 18 MTV Awards.
