RUBY SLIPPER CHRONICLES Debuts At Adelaide Fringe

There's no place like .... Adelaide Fringe with Brisbane performer and Kansan native, Aurélie Roque getting ready to tour her original, one-woman cabaret Ruby Slipper Chronicles.

Aurélie had no option but to agree to a January invitation by Adelaide producer, Call This Guy to debut her cabaret at the highly anticipated festival, with three shows to take place from 15 - 17 February.

"I've always wanted to perform at Adelaide Fringe as it's the perfect environment to show off new work, while you're in a location buzzing with like-minded creatives. I'm so excited to grasp this opportunity with both hands and share my show," Aurélie said.

Ruby Slipper Chronicles, which has delighted audiences at The Arts Centre Gold Coast and at Hayward Street Studios in Brisbane, continues to evolve as it follows Aurélie's life and the parallels she holds with the Wizard of Oz' Dorothy.

The cabaret tells of Aurélie's journey which began when she bravely hitched up her blue and white checks, leaving Kansas amidst a tornado, en route to Australia six years ago.

As she's carved out a performing arts career in Australia, Aurélie has learned to overcome trials and turmoil and celebrate the triumphs, while distinguishing between the good and bad witches and finding her own Tinman and Scarecrow.

The result is a show much less innocent than the Wizard of Oz, but instead a cabaret packed with thrilling, hilarious and evocative anecdotes. Aurélie's diverse vocals captivate audiences through a variety of tweaked tunes across the genres of musical theatre, pop and a "Toto-sized dash of country", with music direction by Luke Volker.

"It's been quite the journey and I'm excited to tell it through a wide repertoire of music thoughtfully tweaked by myself, Luke, and even my husband, to guide the narrative," Aurélie said.

"It's strangely satisfying to showcase my personal story. I mean really, in a country where just about everything is poisonous, I'm surprised my Dorothy has lasted this long. Perhaps there is no place like AUS!"

Ruby Slipper Chronicles shows 9pm Friday and Saturday 15-16 February and 7.30pm Sunday 17 February at The Main Room, The A Club, Adelaide.

Purchase tickets from Fringe Tix or by calling 1300 621 255.

Please note, this cabaret contains strong language and adult content.
