'Pay What You Can' Tickets Available For Key Adelaide Festival Shows

No financial barriers to the best of the Festival - hundreds of 'Pay What You Can' tickets available for key Adelaide Festival shows

Nearly 500 people who are at an economic disadvantage will have the opportunity to attend one of the Adelaide Festival's flagship productions thanks to the generosity of the Balnaves Foundation.

Ten percent of tickets across the entire season of Gravity & Other Myths' physical theatre spectacular Out Of Chaos, will be set aside for those in the community who otherwise could not afford to attend. Eligible patrons including pensioners, full time students and those who are unemployed will have access to tickets to attend the physical theatre performance via a Pay What You Can system, where you literally pay what you choose.

In addition to these tickets which will be available at each of the Gravity & Other Myths performances, the partnership will see Adelaide Festival deliver free tickets direct to welfare organisations including the Department for Communities and Social Inclusion, Connecting Foster & Kinship Carers SA Inc and Anglicare SA.

Adelaide Festival Executive Director Rob Brookman said: "The Festival belongs to everyone and it's important for us to ensure that as many people as possible are able to access the best the Adelaide Festival has to offer regardless of their financial circumstances. Thanks to the generosity of the Balnaves Foundation, we are delighted to expand the Pay What You Can program across an entire season of this popular new work to open up access to this exceptional production."

Founder of the Balnaves Foundation Neil Balnaves AO said: "There is something about the live experience of theatre that's unique and powerful; however the pleasure of going to the theatre is out of reach for a large section of the community. The Pay What You Can scheme is a way of removing the financial barrier that hinders many people from experiencing the excitement and delight that a live theatre performance can generate."

Pay What You Can tickets will be available at the Scott Theatre box-office one hour prior to each performance. Ticket payment is via donation of an amount chosen by the patron, based on what they can afford.

Eligible patrons must present their current healthcare card, pensioner card or full time student card at the box office to access a Pay What You Can ticket (one ticket per person, tickets are subject to availability).

The Pay What You Can scheme adds another element to Adelaide Festival's commitment to ensuring everyone has access to world-class arts events, alongside the Festival's existing discount ticket initiatives including: Under 30s pricing, concession-priced tickets, school discounts, Access tickets for people with disabilities and other offers to various disadvantaged community groups.
