Leading Scottish Improvisers Men with Coconuts Present Adelaide Debut

Following years of sold-out runs at the Prague and Edinburgh Fringes, Scotland's leading improvised comedy troupe, Men with Coconuts, make their Australian Premiere at the 2019 Adelaide Fringe Festival.

Men with Coconuts have established themselves as one of the biggest acts at the Edinburgh Fringe, playing to thousands of tourists and locals alike. Its members have put Scotland on the map as a global centre of improvised theatre, won accolades and been lauded critically. But, when they all realised that none of them had ever seen a koala before, it became clear that now was the time to perform at Australia's biggest Fringe festival.

This year, Men with Coconuts present their flagship, self-titled show: a riotously fun hour of games based on audience suggestions, ending with a fully-improvised musical. With no scripts, no prior planning and no idea of what's coming next, Men with Coconuts create endearingly daft, but strangely familiar universes. Comprised of professional singers, hip-hop artists and one bamboozled musician, Men with Coconuts are unique in their breadth of musical inventiveness - as evidenced by the number of audience members that return to watch them time and time again. When Men with Coconuts discovered that this made their audience members a bit like boomerangs, it became clear that now was the time to perform at Australia's biggest Fringe festival.

Critics have called this show 'imaginative, super-smart, and has the audience in stitches for the entire duration': they've said it's an example of 'truly phenomenal, seamless theatre', that it leaves audiences with 'a skip in their step'. Men with Coconuts have been lauded as the best free comedy act on the Edinburgh Fringe, and they received the prestigious Spirit of the Fringe Award in Prague: they'll be teaching workshops in Adelaide too. But none of them have ever eaten kangaroo meat before. When they realised that, it became clear that now was the time to perform at Australia's biggest Fringe festival.

Men with Coconuts is presented in association with Disco Turtle Productions, at The National Wine Centre. As Scottish people are famous for whining, this was their first choice of venue. They are delighted to be part of such an exciting wine-up of other acts at The National Line Centre.

The Men with Coconuts in Australia are:
Charles Hindley (internationally acclaimed actor and vocalist)
Will Naameh (freestyle rapper and 'Best Newcomer' at Scottish Comedy Awards 2018)
Steve Worsley (prolific narrator of audiobooks, renowned singer and actor)
and on keys: Colin Bramwell (prize-winning poet, pianist, playwright).

Melanie Hindley joins them as Tour Director and Producer.
