Kansas City Public Theatre (KCPublic) presents "First Mondays at the Arts Bar." Every first Monday of the month, KCPublic presents staged readings and small-scale productions of plays by area playwrights and other work which reflects the unique history and concerns of the Kansas City community.

Text Noir - A Dangerous Game of Text by David Hanson

Immersive Piece Text Noir asks the audience the unthinkable - do not turn your phones off during the performance. If you do, you might miss something. The denizens of a local bar all seem to want to find out who killed Alice - a pretty young waitress at the bar with more secrets than someone that young ought to have. Johnny Flynn, private detective, has been hired to find out who by midnight. The audience not only will be in a bar watching Flynn make his way through case, but also opting in to the texts exchange of three separate conversations. Each one provides another level of understanding as the action plays out in the room and on your phone in a very Dangerous Game of Text.

David Hanson is a founding member of the Midwest Dramatists Center in Kansas City and the author of several plays, screenplays, and two books. He is currently the "Immersive Theater" King of Kansas City after putting in installations for immersive plays at Kansas City's Union Station (Bird in the Hand), Crown Center (Audience), and last year's Check Mate in a warehouse in the Cross Roads District. His first play Clearance Sale at the Five and Dime was a finalist for the L. Arnold Weisberger National Play Award and premiered at Alice's Four Floor in New York City. Other productions include Theatre of the Mind and The Boy Who Sang on Buses at Untitled Theatre Company 61's 24-7 Festival in New York City, and Crying on Trains at the 6X10 short play festival at the Barn Players in the Kansas City area. He has had numerous public readings of plays including a full length Crying on Trains at the Leawood Stage Company and The Xmas Party and The Ritual at the Kansas City Playwrights Festival. His historical play Counter Melody won the Rockhurst University's Plays In Progress award. He is a graduate of Trinity University, the University of Southern California, and the BMI Librettist workshop in New York.
