Review: £¥€$ (LIES), Almeida Theatre

Review: £¥€$ (LIES), Almeida Theatre Single-handedly one of the best immersive theatre experiences currently out there, this evening is sure to entertain audiences from all backgrounds. Pitched to both the regular theatregoer and the first-time newbie, the production uses a unilateral emotion to unite everyone - desire. It's a feeling we all share and can be spotted amongst everyone in all realms of society.

Sat on a table with five other people, you are led through an intense two-hour experience where you have the power to invest, trade and negotiate capital. At the head of the table the game master presents you with a choice: do you play big and potentially win lots, or do you play it safe and remain in the calm zone?

Whatever you do, don't be too cautious - otherwise you could run out of cash and be left behind. Ontroerend Goed have created a thrilling game to play. It's one that's really easy to get on board with, especially if you have a competitive side. I certainly do, meaning I was in my element and playing to win

The people on my table were the same. Our game was risky, high stakes and lots of fun. With our fates decided via a roll of a dice anything could happen, and it certainly does. A gong signals that new problems are about to appear, and the participant's bravery will be tested.

Don't worry; lacking in knowledge on financial bonds, mergers and shorting won't prevent you from fully participating in this. I didn't have a clue what was going on half the time, but still remained fully immersed in the whole experience. And if you're ever too stuck the game master is always happy to help you out.

£¥€$ (LIES) is an intense psychological experience that stresses just as much as it intrigues. A game of strategy and uncertainty, it's one that isn't confined to the walls of the Almeida, but instead one that's played out for real globally.

£¥€$ (LIES) at the Almeida Theatre until 18 August
