WVPT Presents The Last Five Years At MAC

West Virginia Public Theatre (WVPT) brings another piece of Broadway to North-Central West Virginia: Directed by Jen Coles, The Last Five Years is an intimate, funny, and devastatingly honest examination of life and love. The musical opens on Friday, September 7 at 8pm, with additional shows on September 8, 13-15 at 8pm and a matinee on September 9 at 2pm. All performances will take place at the Tanner Theatre at Monongalia Arts Center (MAC).

In The Last Five Years, an up-and-coming novelist and a struggling actress recall the highs and lows of their relationship through a series of songs, starting from opposite points in time and meeting in the middle.

Jason Robert Brown's Drama Desk Award winning musical premiered in 2001 with Sherie Renee Scott (Aida) as Cathy and Norbert Leo Butz (Wicked) as Jamie and has since been adapted into a film featuring Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan. It has been performed to rave reviews all over the world and is now making its professional Morgantown premiere starring Nora Perone and Daniel Stevens, with direction by Jen Coles and musical direction by R.J. Nestor.

Perone and Stevens, both West Virginians and alumni of WVU, have taken their acting careers far, to Los Angeles and London, respectively. Both are returning to their home state to support local arts organizations.

WVPT is partnering with the award-winning UK theatre company Streetlights, People! Productions on this show and working with local and International Artists. "Collaborations like this are crucial to the WVPT mission," says Jerry McGonigle, Artistic Director of West Virginia Public Theatre. "We are honored and excited about this production and proud to bring it to the Morgantown community."
