WHEELING SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA Presents Their ANNUAL SYMPHONY ON ICE at WESBANCO ARENA Featuring Olympic Skater Ashley Wagner

Wheeling Symphony Orchestra (WSO) announces its annual holiday event, Symphony on Ice presented by Main Street Bank and Murray Energy Corporation and conducted by Music Director Finalist and Conductor, Roger Kalia. The performance will be held Thursday, November 29 at 7:00 pm at Wesbanco Arena in Wheeling, WV.

Don't miss the Ohio Valley's favorite holiday show this November! Join Music Director Finalist Roger Kalia and the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra along with champion skaters, the Pittsburgh and Wheeling Figure Skating Clubs, local middle and high school choirs, and surprise guests as we welcome in the sounds of the season! It's the holiday tradition the entire family will enjoy!

The program will feature professional skaters, Ashley Wagner and Robbie Przepioski. Ms. Wagner is an award-wining figure skater. She is a 2016 World silver medalist, 2014 Olympic bronze medalist, a 2012 Four Continents champion, a three-time Grand Prix Final medalist, and a three-time U.S. national champion. Mr. Przepioski returns to Symphony On Ice after appearing in last year's program. He is a three-time Championship Men's competitor at the US Figure Skating Nationals and a three-time Novice Pairs competitor for the US Figure Skating Nationals, where he was a 2015 Novice Pairs Pewter Medalist at the US Figure Skating Nationals. In addition to the professional skaters, the Pittsburgh and Wheeling Skate Clubs will return to perform along with the Pittsburgh Theatre on Ice and Steel City Blades, and other special surprise guests.

Not only does Symphony on Ice bring the best entertainment in skating, it features many of Ohio Valley's young musicians. Over 350 local middle and high school choir students participate. Schools include Bellaire Middle School, Brooke High School, Long Drain Middle School, Martins Ferry High School, St. Clairsville High School, Triadelphia Middle School, Warwood Middle School, Wheeling Middle School, and Wheeling Park High School.

Conductor Roger Kalia returns to Wheeling after conducting the 2018 Celebrate America Fourth of July Tour. He is currently the Assistant Conductor of Pacific Symphony in Orange County, CA and the Music Director of Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra. He also serves as Co-Founder and Music Director of the Lake George Music Festival in upstate New York, the premier musical arts festival in the region. Mr. Kalia has been hailed as a conductor who leads with "passionate intensity" and who is recognized as "one to watch." In addition to his current conducting roles, he is in consistent demand as a guest conductor with engagements including National Symphony at the Kennedy Center, Chicago Sinfonietta at Symphony Hall, Long Beach Symphony, and Boise Philharmonic.

"I am thrilled to be returning to Wheeling to conduct the Wheeling Symphony and their Symphony On Ice concert," says Music Director Finalist and conductor, Roger Kalia. "The holidays are about joy, reflection, and celebration, which is what this concert is all about. Highlights of the concert include traditional carols, including a holiday sing-along, specifically arranged for the Wheeling Symphony by the arranger Gary Fry, music from the classic movie "It's a Wonderful Life" by Dimitri Tiomkin, and selections from Duke Ellington's jazzy arrangement of Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker." I had such an amazing time working with the orchestra and meeting people this past summer in Wheeling for our Fourth of July concert in the blazing heat, and I'm looking forward to cooling off with Symphony on Ice!"
