GVT PLAY FEST at GREENBRIER VALLEY THEATRE In February!

The Greenbrier Valley Theater (GVT) have announced GVT Play Fest, a community theatre festival showcasing the talents of writers and theatre members in the community.

GVT Play Fest will be held on February 7th, 8th and 9th, 2019 beginning at 7:00 PM each night with tickets costing $16.00 for adults, $13.00 for seniors (60+) and $10.00 for children and students. There will also be a pay-what-you-can-preview performance on February 6th, 2019 at 7:00 PM.

GVT acknowledges the hardships federal employees have gone through lately and as such are offering a free ticket to all government employees and their families who have suffered during the government shutdown. All employees must do is present their government ID when purchasing tickets.

Brianna Duckworth, GVT's Teaching Artist and Play Fest Director, explained that, "Play Fest is an incredible opportunity to showcase the talents and passions of people within the community. When you have six different plays, it gives the audiences a chance to see a heartfelt drama as well as a farcical comedy all in one night."

This range of theatrical styles ensures audiences that there will be a show for all tastes and genres.

Two writers in particular will be featured throughout Play Fest: Jonathan Joy and James Froemel.

Jonathan Joy, Author, Don't Drink the Jet Fuel

Jonathan Joy will be returning for his third year participating in GVT's Play Fest. His theatrical works have been featured in more than 17 states and have won multiple awards. Don't Drink the Jet Fuel, his play about family relationships and a meditation on the past, present and future of West Virginia, won the university of Illinois 2018 Inner Voices Social Issues Theatre writing contest and Beans and Franks Never Tasted So Good won him a West Virginia Writers award. When not writing plays, Joy works as the Associate Professor of English at Ashland Community and Technical College.

James Froemel, Author, Thayerbee Dragons

James Froemel is the winner of both the 2015 and 2017 West Virginia Biggest Liar competition and author of Thayerbee Dragons. He regularly writes for Goldenseal, a WV publication. A performer as well as a writer, he can be seen portraying Charles Schulz, the creator of the Peanuts comic strip, in his one man show titled Charles Schulz: A Life in the Funny Papers. Thayerbee Dragons focuses on Julia, a newlywed, who visits a town named Thayerbee - featuring dragons, tea and lots of Hank Williams music - which her husband's grandparents had lived in their whole lives.
