Theatre Tulsa has partnered with Oklahomans for Equality for its upcoming Next Stage production of "Hedwig and the Angry Inch."

"Hedwig and the Angry Inch" is a cult classic rock musical about East German rock goddess Hedwig Schmidt, who suffers a botched operation and tells the tale with a performance that mixes a rock concert with cabaret and comedy.

The show will be performed in the recently-opened Lynn Riggs Theatre at the Dennis R. Neill Equality Center at 621 E 4th St. in downtown Tulsa.

"Theatre Tulsa and Oklahomans for Equality make a perfect partnership. We both have missions that involve building and strengthening the communities we serve. And the Lynn Riggs Theatre is a perfect performance space to experiment with smaller and more intimate shows," said Jarrod Kopp, Executive Director of Theatre Tulsa.

The cult musical by John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask took Broadway by storm in 2014-2015. The record-breaking production ran for more than 500 performances and won four Tony Awards including Best Musical Revival. The role of Hedwig was played by six well-known actors: Neil Patrick Harris, Andrew Rannells, Michael C. Hall, John Cameron Mitchell, Darren Criss and Taye Diggs.

The cast for the local production includes Thomas Williams as Hedwig and Tabitha Littlefield as Yitzhak.

Theatre Tulsa Next Stage features new and challenging community theatre as a supplement to Theatre Tulsa's regular season of mainstage shows. Theatre Tulsa Next Stage produces at least one additional work per season.

"Hedwig and the Angry Inch" runs for six performances Sept. 6 through 15. All evening performances are at 8 p.m.
