Tampa Repertory Theatre will inaugurate its eighth season with the compelling new drama Heisenberg by Simon Stephens, author of the international hit The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.

Heisenberg will run in the Studio Theatre of HCC-Ybor City, on the corner of East Palm Ave. and Avenida Republica de Cuba, from September 7 through September 23 at 8 PM on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and at 3 PM on Sundays. (A paid preview will be performed at 8 PM on Thursday, September 6.) Tickets are $25 ($20 student/military/senior) and are available at the door or from a link on TampaRep's website at http://www.tamparep.org/heisenberg. TampaRep also offers its FlexPass, which enables patrons to attend multiple shows in Season 8 at a discount.

In Heisenberg, a 42-year-old woman and a 75-year-old man discover one another in a London railway station, and from there embark in search of the woman's missing son. The New York Times called Heisenberg a "satisfyingly sentimental, life-affirming mating dance between two people who are so utterly dissimilar that of course they are made for each other," and also "a probing work that considers the multiplicity of alternatives that could shape our lives at every moment."

TampaRep's Heisenberg is directed by lauded actor/director Jim Sorensen, who most recently staged the critically acclaimed new play Strait of Gibraltar at American Stage Company.

"Heisenberg humanizes the mathematical theory that we can never simultaneously know the position and velocity of an object-that the act of observation can affect the thing being observed," says Sorensen. "While the theory refers to subatomic particles, the concept is explored with canny humor and pathos in the interactions between high-velocity Georgie and seemingly stable Alex. I can't wait to help these two gifted actors breathe life into the playwright's beautiful story."

Sorensen has assembled a star cast for Heisenberg: Emilia Sargent (Georgie) and Michael Mahoney (Alex). Sargent was honored as "Outstanding Lead Actress" by Theatre Tampa Bay and as "Best Actress" by Creative Loafing for her turn in last season's Grounded at TampaRep, and was awarded "Best Actress" by Creative Loafing for her appearance as Blanche DuBois in TampaRep's A Streetcar Named Desire. Mahoney won "Outstanding Lead Actor" from Theatre Tampa Bay for TampaRep's 2016 production of The Iceman Cometh. Both Sargent and Mahoney recently won high praise from critics and audiences alike for their lead performances in TampaRep's hit closer to last season, Arthur Miller's A View from the Bridge.

Following Heisenberg, TampaRep's Season 8 features Michael Frayn's Copenhagen in January 2019 and Aaron Posner's comedy Stupid f-ing Bird, a satirical spin on Anton Chekhov's The Seagull in a modern setting, in May 2019. [EDITORS: Publisher approves the use of the title Stupid F**king Bird.]
