Review: PIPPI LONGSTOCKING AT THE SEVEN SEAS at Intiman Opening night of Pippi at the Seven Seas, 13th of December 2018

Astrid Lindgren is one of the most famous authors in the world, when it comes to books for children and maybe her most known and beloved characters is Pippi Longstocking. The first book about Pippi was published in 1945 and since then been translated to 76 different languages. Astrid Lindgren died 2002 but the books and her characters are still alive and loved as ever around the world. As a Christmas tradition the Theater Intiman in Stockholm is showing a family musical based on one of the stories from Astrid Lindgren. Intiman is very close to very Astrid Lindgren lived and wrote her famous book. This year they are playing "Pippi at the seven seas" and it is a new adoption of it.

The world opening night was the 13th of Lucia and the theater was crowded by kid and their parents eager to see Pippi and her friends Tommy and Annika. Among the celebrities was the original Pippi, Inger Nilsson who played in the films from the early 1970ths. The stories about the strongest girl in the world are timeless.
One day Pippi finds a letter in bottle in the sea. It's from her father who´s been captured and held in prison by the pirates, Blod-Svente and Jocke med kniven, who wanted to find the treasury were all the golden coins is. Pippi, Tommy and Annika enters on a rescue mission. Some of the smallest children might find the pirates and the firing of the canons a bit frightening, but mainly it is a fun, colorful family adventure with a lot of the famous Pippi songs included with lyrics by Astrid Lingren and music by George Riedel and Jan Johansson. Some of the songs were "Here is Pippi", "Sjörövarfabbe (the Pirate song) and Kalle Teodor Eveyrone in the audience have heard the songs a million time and know them more or less by heart. One of the numbers with the Pippi and the pirates were a long tap dancing number full with energy and fun. Everyone in the cast was very good and Angelina Rautalin was very true as Pippi. Strong and full of confidence. Meleah Myhrberg (Annika) and Oskar Norgren (Tommy) was charming in their roles. The two main pirates, played by Anna Hallgren and Martin Hallgren were great, just as the ensemble pirates. Kristian Ståhlgren played Pippis dad. A great cast all in all.

I liked the costumes made by Caroline Eriksson. Quite inspired by the originals in the film from 1970, but still with a modern flair of it. The musical has kept the Pippi-feeling we all love and treasury highly, as well as making it modern and enjoyable for everyone to watch in the family.

It will run till the 14th of April and tickets can be purchased at:
