BWW Previews: LOLA at Skandiascenen Cirkus

Björn Ulvaeus (ABBA) and Tommy Körberg (original Anatolij in Chess at West End) will work together again in the play Lola.

Björn Ulvaeus, Camilla Thulin and Tomas Andersson Wij strengthen the creative team behind "Lola" with Tommy Körberg in the lead - Premiere September 22 at Cirkus, Skandia scenen in Stockholm!

Björn Ulvaeus & Tomas Andersson Wij join the creative team behind "Lola" - a musical monologue about longing, fear and exclusion. The performance contains a wide repertoire of both famous and unknown songs by, among others, Jules Sylvain, Randy Newman, Hasse & Tage, Leonard Cohen, Billy Joel and Charlie Chaplin. The fashion designer and costume designer Camilla Thulin, creates the costumes for the play,.

Tommy Körberg occupies the stage of Skandia during the autumn as the main role of director Sunil Munshi's musical monologue "Lola". In the play, Lola performs his last performance after getting fired by her manager at the age of autumn, and we are taken on a warm humorous journey through life, career and crushed dreams.

"Lola" is a scaled-down two-man performance with only Körberg and pianist Carl Flemsten on stage. The story is accompanied by music inspired and retrieved from all corners of the world, including Evergreens, Schubert, Portuguese fado, revyschlagers, Jules Sylvain, jazz and the 1950s' Golden Age. In the role of Lola, Körberg switches between narratives and songs in ten songs, including Jules Sylvain, Charlie Chaplin, Ulla Billquist, Billy Joel, Leonard Cohen and Hasse & Tage, translated, and written by Björn Ulvaeus, Tommy Körberg, Tomas Andersson We and Peter Dalle.

"Tommy is a brave man who dares to try new ways. Trying to get into Lola's world was an exciting challenge for me. I'm not quite as brave as Tommy, but I like challenges! says Björn Ulvaeus.

"It's a very wide and exciting song repertoire we're dealing with. Just translating some of these classic pieces is demanding in itself, and it will be very exciting to convey to the public, "says Tommy Körberg.

The fashion designer Camilla Thulin are another well-known name to the performance's creative team. Camilla has worked as a costume maker for some of Sweden's most distinguished institutional theaters, and has also produced costumes and garments for Army of Lovers and Crown Princess Victoria.

"It's always exciting to work in productions where a so-called" machogubbe "will attract its inner lady," says Camilla Thulin.

Sunil Munshi is a director and has been noted for his own-minded and form-proof sets. He has directed successes like "I do not want to die, I just do not want to live" and "Petra von Kants bitter tears" at Dramaten. In 2015, he directed Magnus Uggla's critically acclaimed monologist "Hallå", in 2017, he produced and directed the Melodifestivalen - and with his already sound track record, Lola becomes another production to Sunil's already wide repertoire.
