Masque Theatre Presents THE COMEDY OF ERRORS A new Shakespearean production is heading to the Masque Theatre in October.

A shipwreck, twins, mistaken identities, a father doomed to die, a wife desperate to regain her husband's love and an inappropriate love affair. It's all in a day's work for these poor Shakespearean characters who have to contend with "nimble jugglers that deceive the eye".

The Comedy of Errors is Shakespearean comedy at its best: farce, wordplay, mistaken identity, slapstick and rude jokes. Two sets of identical twins, separated soon after birth, find themselves unknowingly in the same city after one mismatched pair has spent years searching for their lost counterparts. The ensuing confusion, while riotously funny for the audience, leads to all manner of complications for the characters: seductions, beatings, tousles with the law and declarations of madness.

Matthew and Santie Roy, in their directorial debut, have chosen to set the action in the 1980s, with vibrant costumes and a soundtrack guaranteed to keep you wanting more. This husband and wife duo are no strangers to the Masque stage themselves, with Matthewhaving won a CATA for his 2017 performance of Rosencrantz in Tom Stoppard's, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead.

Heading up the cast are acclaimed opera singer, Robin Botha (Antipholus of Ephesus) and the highly regarded Faeron Wheeler (Antipholus of Syracuse). Their servants, Dromio of Ephesus and Syracuse, are performed by Laurie Todes and Bronwyn Carrie-Wilson, respectively. The decision to cast women to portray these traditionally male roles was not taken lightly and the production greatly benefits from this choice.

This production is presented by Claremont Dramatic Society, a big fan of the Bard and brought audiences Macbeth in 2011 and A Midsummer Night's Dream in 2015. The Comedy of Errors opens at the Masque Theatre, Muizenberg, on Friday 12 October and runs until Saturday 20 October - excluding Sunday to Tuesday.
