The 2024 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize has been awarded to UK playwright Ava Pickett for her play 1536.  Awarded annually since 1978, The Susan Smith Blackburn Prize is the largest and oldest international award recognizing women+ who have written works of outstanding quality for the English-speaking theatre. Athens arrived in Brooklyn and transported myth and magic interwoven with the beauty & grotesqueness of humanity. Conceived & directed by Dimitris Papaioannou, dialogue-free and comprised of non-linear vignettes, Transverse Orientation is a dynamic dance theater tableau that creates a veritable feast of sumptuous delights & constant metamorphosis.

New circus theatre company Oddly Moving is retelling the Greek myth of Atlas using circus, autobiographical storytelling, physical theatre, projections and object manipulation.  The show shines a light on the individual looking at the personal burden of what-ifs, joys, regrets and turning points.

Outcry Theatre presents a world premiere play, Dreams of Icarus, directed by Becca Johnson-Spinos and starring Logan Beutel and Dylan Weand. The play is a devised work, created by the actors and director based on the classic Greek myth of Icarus and Daedalus. Dreams of Icarus will perform December 20-29, 2019 at the Addison Theatre Centre Stone Cottage.

Connecticut Repertory Theatre (CRT) stages its second Studio Theatre production of the 2018-19 season with "If We Were Birds" by Erin Shields. Helene Kvale will direct. Prop Thtr is pleased launch its 2018-19 season with the world premiere of NEVERLAND, a new devised riff on J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan, devised by The Ensemble and directed by the Prop's new Artistic Director Olivia Lilley.

Jon Lawrence Rivera, Artistic Director of Playwrights' Arena - the first and oldest theater dedicated to discovering, nurturing, and producing original works written exclusively by Los Angeles playwrights - is presenting  BABY EYES by Donald Jolly, with a cast that includes Jason Caceres, James Kaemmerling, Rudy Martinez, Ted Monte, Dennis Renard and Melvin Ward.

The European premiere of Bill Russell and Janet Hood's new musical Unexpected Joy is underway. The powerful all-female cast is made up of:Janet Fullerlove (Fortune's Fool, The Beggar's Opera) as Joy; Jodie Jacobs (Myth, Rock of Ages) as Rachel; Melanie Marshall (Guys and Dolls, Jane Eyre) as Lou; and Kelly Sweeney (Ronald William White Acting Through Song Prize Winner 2018) as Tamara.

Theatre of NOTE continues its 2018 season with the West Coast premiere of MARIAN, OR THE TRUE TALE OF ROBIN HOOD, written by Adam Szymkowicz and directed by Christopher Johnson.

Production images are today released for a new adaptation of Henry V presented by Shakespeare at the Tobacco Factory at Theatre Royal Bath's Ustinov Studio where it runs until Saturday 21 July with opening night for press on Thursday 28 June. The production which stars Ben Hall and is directed by Elizabeth Freestone, launches Artistic Director Jonathan Church's 2018 Summer Season of five plays at Theatre Royal Bath.

The League of Chicago Theatres held the 2018 Annual Gala, an elegant event that brings together friends of Chicago theatre to raise funds for programs to support Chicagoland's more than 250-member theatre companies. The event, which had 245 attendees and raised $125,000, was held on Monday, May 21, 2018 at the Four Seasons Hotel Chicago, 120 E. Delaware Place. 

Linked Dance Theatre's original immersive dance theater piece, Beloved/Departed, has begun performances of its Off-Off-Broadway debut at The Center at West Park (located at 165 West 86th Street, at Amsterdam Avenue). This strictly limited engagement will run through May 18, 2018.

BEDLAM's (Eric Tucker, Artistic Director; Kimberly Pau Boston, Managing Director) presents a new production of PYGMALION. The company's return to the work of George Bernard Shaw officially opens Off-Broadway on Tuesday March 27, 2018 at The Sheen Center (18 Bleecker Street), for a limited 6-week run through Sunday, April 22, 2018. 'CUPID AND PSYCHE' is a vibrant, vivacious retelling of the Greek myth. The book sparkles with sly wit as Venus (with the aid of Mercury, as himself and a cast of thousands!) tells the tale of her thwarted efforts to come between her son Cupid and the bright and beautiful Psyche, a mere mortal. The songs are by turns laugh-out-loud funny and achingly romantic, and the classical tale shines anew, making for a luminous, magical musical.

It was a reunion for two of the lead actors from Broadway's On the Town when Tony-nominee Tony Yazbeck visited New Hope, PA to see Clyde Alves at Bucks County Playhouse. Alves plays the role of Tago in the world premiere of The New World , the musical comedy that is getting raves from critics. John Timpane of the Philadelphia Inquirer said With sneaky brilliance, beginning to end, The New World is fresh, funny, and fluid. Jean Brenner of Bucks County Herald said, Mark my words, The New World is headed to Broadway: it's special, it's funny, it's delightfully entertaining.'
