This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Dicapo Opera Theatre, which is presenting The Most Happy Fella. This May-September romance features a book, music, and lyrics by Tony-Award winner Frank Loesser, best known for Guys and Dolls and How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. The Most Happy Fela is directed by Michael Capasso and the conductor is Pacien Mazzagatti. Choreography is by Francine Harmon, set design by John Farrell, costume design by Julie Wyma and lighting design by Susan Roth.

The Broadway Boys once again hosted a holiday party and concert with the 6th Annual BROADWAY SINGS FOR TOYS: A Benefit for Toys for Tots, yesterday, December 19th at Symphony Space in Thalia Theater. This year's concert/toy drive, "Deck The Halls", featured Lillias White (Fela! The Life), Nick Adams (Pricilla...Desert, Chicago), Orfeh (Legally Blonde, Footloose), Andrea Burns (In The Heights), Kacie Shiek (Hair), Janet Dacal (Wonderland), Carly Rose Sonenclar (Les Miserables, Wonderland), Suzanne Fiore (Ragtime), composer Jonathan Reid Gealt and more! 'Fela!,' the 2010 Best Musical Tony Award-nominated musical, opened last night, December 14th, at 8 p.m. at the Center Theatre Group/Ahmanson Theatre. The musical, filled with the exuberant music of Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, will continue through January 22, 2012. Check out photos from opening night below!

On January 2, Fela!, the multi-Tony Award-winning Broadway musical about the music and life of the revolutionary musician and activist Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, ended it's run at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre. The critically acclaimed musical began performances on Broadway on October 19 of 2009 and opened to rave reviews on November 23, 2009. Check out photos from the final performance below!

Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS launched the 22nd Annual GYPSY OF THE YEAR COMPETITION yesterday, December 6 at the New Amsterdam Theatre. The competition continues today. The proceeds from the event, a dazzling once-a-year variety show filled with lavish musical numbers, original skits and Broadway stars, will benefit BC/EFA. This year's GYPSY OF THE YEAR is being hosted by Broadway personality Seth Rudetsky ('Seth's Big Fat Broadway' on Sirius/XM Satellite Radio).

Actors Equity held a celebration for the 60th Anniversary of the Gypsy Robe on Monday night, October 25th at Sequoia on Pier 17 at the South Street Seaport where past gypsy robe winners came back to reminisce and to celebrate.

Pop icon Deborah Cox headlined a star-studded cast featuring performances and presentations by Sandra Thurman, former AIDS Czar under President Bill Clinton and current President and CEO of International AIDS Trust, the cast of FELA!, Dancing With The Stars finalist and N'SYNC star Lance Bass, Tony Award winners Alice Ripley, Chuck Cooper, Melba Moore, and TV stars Graham Phillips (The Good Wife) and Ariana Grande (Nickelodeon's Victorious), for the third annual Broadway in South Africa (BSA) benefit concert last night, October 4. Nearly the entire show featured world-premiere songs, created for the evening, by such composers as Grammy Award winners Desmond Child and Julie Gold. This year's honoree was producer Michael Butler. He is one of the most successful theatrical producers, lauded for bringing HAIR to Broadway in 1968, and an active proponent of youth creating positive global social change.

The best of Broadway is being presented free on six consecutive Thursdays this summer with '106.7 Lite fm Presents Broadway in Bryant Park 2010' - a lunchtime series which began on Thursday, July 8th at 12:30pm on the Bryant Park Stage. Sponsored by Bank of America, and JCPenney 33rd & 6th, and hosted by Lite fm's on-air personalities, the tenth annual presentation of open-air, On- and Off- Broadway lunch hour performances runs through August 12th.

As previously reported, multiple Emmy Award winning icon Betty White will host NBC's Saturday Night Live on May 8. White will make her first appearance in Studio 8H. The episode will will feature Saturday Night Live alumni Rachel Dratch, Ana Gastever, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Molly Shannon, and Maya Rudolkph. FELA! producer Jay-Z will be the musical guest. The cast of FELA! recorded the soundtrack of their acclaimed hit Broadway musical this week, with a release date set for June 8, 2010. BroadwayWorld was there to shoot the session.

Sing for Hope (www.singforhope.org), an 'artists' peace corps' that mobilizes world-class artists in volunteer service programs that benefit schools, hospitals and communities, has collaborated with The Metropolitan Museum of Art to create Bringing It To YOU - a multidisciplinary arts day of gallery tours and featured performances for New York City school children. The event, presented by Sing for Hope, took place at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on March 4, 2010 with the performance beginning at 2:30pm at the Grace Rainey Rogers Auditorium. Two Boots Pizza and MJS LIVE, Inc. have announced it's second show for A SLICE OF BROADWAY, a celebration of Broadway's finest at NY's Pizza Pioneers Two Boots Pizza. The 'tastiest pizza in Manhattan' (yelp.com) will honor the amazing cast of Fela! With a specialty pizza offered now until mid January at its Hell's Kitchen location. This afternoon, cast from the first selected show, Fela!, now playing at the Eugene O'Neill Theater and starring Sahr Ngaujah, Kevin Mambo, Lillias White, and Saycon Sengbloh attended Two Boots in their Theater District neighborhood. The cast posed for photographs and sampled The Zombie slice (named after one of Fela Anikulapo Kuti's most popular songs). The pizza slice included African-spiced chicken, criss-crossed with jalapeno pesto, and for the first time ever on a pizza - Yam pesto.

The colorful Gypsy Robe, embellished with mementos from Broadway musicals, is presented to the cast member who has the most Broadway chorus credits. Recent Gypsy Robe honoree, WHITE CHRISTMAS' Joseph Medeiros passed the special Broadway garment on to Adesola Osakalumi backstage at the Marquis before the opening night performance and we were there too!

As previously announced, Fela!, the new musical based on the life and music of groundbreaking African composer, performer and activist Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, will arrive on Broadway at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre (230 West 49th Street). Performances commence tonight, Monday, October 19 with an official opening set for Monday, November 23.

Tony winning director and choreographer Bill T. Jones welcomed the press on Wednesday, September 23 to Theater A at 37 Arts as he introduced his Fela! cast, including stars Sahr Ngaujah, Kevin Mambo, Tony winner Lillias White, and the always stunning Saycon Sengbloh.
