The Met celebrates the new year with a new production of Bizet's Carmen by acclaimed English director Carrie Cracknell, opening on Sunday, December 31, at 6:30PM. In her highly anticipated Met debut, Cracknell reinvigorates the classic story of deadly passion with a staging that moves the action to modern day and explores themes that could not be more relevant today: gendered violence, abusive labor structures, and the desire to break through societal boundaries.

In this contemporary take on an imagined sequel, Nora (Kellie Overbey of Broadway's The Coast of Utopia) returns to the door she famously slammed 15 years earlier with unfinished business on her mind. Stage and screen star Laurie Metcalf has been nominated for a Tony in each of the last three seasons, winning in back-to-back seasons for A DOLL'S HOUSE, PART 2 and again tonight for THREE TALL WOMEN. Check out here 2018 acceptance speech here.

Metcalf most recently won a Tony Award for her unforgettable performance in last season's A Doll's House, Part 2, and received three Emmy Awards for her portrayal of Jackie Harris in the hit television series 'Roseanne.' At MCC Theater, she received Lucille Lortel and Obie Awards for her performance in Sharr White's The Other Place, a role she reprised for Broadway and for which she also received a Tony Award nomination. Metcalf is currently on Broadway in Three Tall Women.

Friedman Theatre is Manhattan Theatre Club's new Broadway production of Saint Joan, written by Nobel Prize in Literature and Academy Award winner Bernard Shaw and directed by Tony Award winner Daniel Sullivan (Lillian Hellman's The Little Foxes, Proof). Starring three-time Tony Award nominee Condola Rashad (A Doll's House, Part 2; 'Billions'), Saint Joan will open on Wednesday, April 25, 2018.
