National Theatre (Dorfman)
(Waterloo) South Bank London

Double Olivier Award-winner Ruth Wilson plays the titular role in writer Patrick Marber’s modern adaptation Hedda Gabler, with director Ivo van Hove making his National Theatre debut.

Following the eponymous figure in the early days of a tedious marriage, longing to be free, Hedda Gabler is broadly considered Henrik Ibsen’s masterpiece, with Marber’s vital new version transporting the tale to a modern setting.

Wilson, star of television’s Luther and The Affair, will tackle one of the stage’s greatest roles, while one in Van Hove, the production is led by one of the world’s most exciting directors. Already seen in New York and Amsterdam, his radical interpretation has received vast critical acclaim, prior to its eagerly anticipated transfer to the National Theatre Lyttelton.
