In 1978, Thomas Babe's A Prayer for My Daughter impacted audiences who were living through the post-Vietnam syndrome. Casual use of drugs, crime and police brutality were rampant. We were in a state of moral decay. In retrospect, it has all gotten progressively worse. So, the intense drama is like holding a mirror up to nature as it'were in 2010, and Crown City Theatre has a surefire audience grabber.

If you're going to open your play with the two main characters discussing their preference of either muffins or coffee cake with their morning brew, your dialogue had better be sparkling. It's not. In fact the biggest problem with Michael Jacobs' Impressionism is that its main characters can't seem to express themselves as cleverly as the author seems to believe they are. Pseudo-sophisticated urban shorthand abounds in this ninety minute pounding into the brain of the notion that, like an impressionist painting, life is so much clearer when observed from a distance.

2nd Story Theatre announces two classic Pulitzer Prize-winning comedies for its 2009 summer series, from July 8 - September 6. Dress Circle the 'greatest showbix shop in the world' is celebrating its 30th anniversary. To mark this landmark event Dress Circle has launched an online poll to find the UK's 'Greatest Musical' of the last thirty years. Theatregoers worldwide can cast their votes now at www.dresscircleawards.com. In order to qualify for entry a pforessional production of the show must have been performed live on stage in the UK between January 1978 and July 31st 2008. Voters can make their selection from a choice of over 300 musicals. Only one vote per person will be counted.
