Rutter's continued leadership, the Kennedy Center is re-imagining ways of presenting the arts in the 21st century through interdisciplinary programming, immersive audience engagement, and a focus on artist-centric programming. The 2016–2017 season includes significant and institution-wide initiatives from the yearlong celebration marking the Centennial of John F. Kennedy's birth, to three newly appointed Artistic Partners who will lead these artistic and community initiatives (Yo-Yo Ma, Rene?e Fleming, and Q-Tip), and the support of American programming. On October 9, 2015 at 8:00PM, The New York Pops, led by Music Director Steven Reineke, will open its 33rd season at Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage with My Favorite Things: The Songs of Rodgers and Hammerstein. The concert honors the duo's timeless work, which has captured the hearts of every generation of music lovers, and will feature guest artists Sierra Boggess and Steven Pasquale. The program will feature numbers from all eleven of the collaborations between Rodgers and Hammerstein. Selections will include 'A Wonderful Guy' and 'Some Enchanted Evening' from South Pacific, 'The Sound of Music' from The Sound of Music, and 'Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin' from Oklahoma!.

Theater of the Stars Cancels Entire 2013-14 Season

The company's financial position has forced the organization to cancel Disney's The Little Mermaid and Cats, in what was to be their 61st season. After exhausting every avenue possible to present this season, the continued effects of a slow economy and the financial results of last years' season precludes the organization from having the resources to mount the current season's productions.
