Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) Artistic Director Bill Rauch announced the Festival's 2019 playbill today. The season, which will be Rauch's last at the artistic helm, celebrates Shakespeare, classics and new plays, including two American Revolutions commissions and a pilot Community Visit Project that will take a bilingual Play on! translation into community venues throughout the region.

Against a backdrop of bitter intolerance and terrible violence in the Indian state of Assam in the 1980's, filmmaker Bidyut Kotoky's semi-autobiographical tale, Rainbow Fields (Xhoixobote Dhemalite), is told through the eyes of children impacted by events they don't fully understand. The children's playtime games lead to an incident that changes them forever, and years later as adults they must grapple with coming to terms with what happened, and with themselves. First rate acting, notably by Victor Banerjee (A Passage to India) and by the child actors, plus the rich cinematography, add to the depth of the film. For those who are familiar with, and especially for those who are unfamiliar with, this period of Indian history, this arresting film is a must-see.

Peninsula Players Theatre, America's Oldest Professional Resident Summer Theatre and Door County's theatrical icon, announces company members for its 81st season, running June 14 through October 16, 2016. The mix of plays include a late-in-life romance, an intriguing whodunit, a raucous pop-rock musical, an engaging Midwest premiere and a wildly comic thriller.

The great musician Corky Hale needs no introduction. She and her husband composer Mike Stoller have worked with everyone in the music business including Sinatra and Steisand. She is currently producing a revue entitled I Only Have Eyes For You about the music of Al Dubin. It will open at the Ricardo Montalban Theatre Friday May 13. Loosely based on the 1915 novel written by John Buchan, later made into the 1935 movie directed by Alfred Hitchcock and gradually turned into a staged comical farce in 2005 by Patrick Barlow, The 39 Steps is something quite wonderful to see when brought about by a gifted director and a very talented cast of four that could bring about such a myriad of wacky characters. Director Scott Hamilton, as he states in his curtain speech, was certain that he wanted to lead this show towards its absolute comedic potential, and now writing in hindsight, it is clear that he manages to do just that give quite an optimistic start to what will be a rather epic new season at the Chatham Drama Guild. In relation to that and just to mention, the Guild has been offering wonderful performances since the time Hitchcock's movie was made, so this show is sure not to disappoint anybody who enjoys an innocent and rather traditional form of visual, laugh-loud-comedy.

Producer Douglas Denoff announced today that original Broadway and off-Broadway cast member Arnie Burton will depart the two-time Tony Award winning hilarious hit comedy 39 Steps, following his 1,000th performance as Man #2/Clown #2 on Monday, September 28th. Having originated the role in the original Broadway production, Burton returned for the current engagement at the Union Square Theatre. Cameron Pow (The Lion King) will join the cast on Wednesday, September 30th, taking over for Burton.

Ashland, Ore.-The Oregon Shakespeare Festival will open Lynn Nottage's Sweat, the final production of the Festival's 2015 playbill, on August 2 in the Angus Bowmer Theatre. Preview performances are July 29, July 31 and August 1.
