This special concert celebration will feature Sarah Dash singing All The Great Aretha Franklin Classics (including Respect, Chain Of Fools, Freeway Of Love, Ain't No Way, Jump To It), and telling inside stories of her friendship with The Queen. Bernard Purdy, who played in Ms. Franklin's band through the years, will be the musical director for Ms. Dash for these performances.

Irish Arts Center Breaks Ground On Landmark New Facility

Actor and IAC Honorary Chair Gabriel Byrne; Corey Johnson, Speaker of the New York City Council; Congressman Joseph Crowley; Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer; New York City Cultural Affairs Commissioner Tom Finkelpearl; Ciaran Madden, Consul General of Ireland; and other City and State dignitaries joined the Irish Arts Center board, staff, and supporters as they broke ground today on the New Irish Arts Center, a heralded multidisciplinary center that will bring people of all backgrounds together through the excellence and dynamism of Irish arts and culture. The ceremony marked the start of construction on Phase One of the new facility, a state-of-the-art new building at 726 11th Avenue, now fully funded and scheduled to open in late 2020.

BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival, now in its 40th season, presents Les Ballet Jazz de Montreal: Leonard Cohen's Dance Me, a sweeping homage to Leonard Cohen's songs. Originally commissioned before Leonard Cohen's death and with his blessing, Dance Me 'is a grandly executed hodgepodge of performance art that pushes the entertainment value of contemporary dance closer to the level of a rock concert or big-budget musical' (Ottawa Citizen). Choreographed by Andonis Foniadakis, Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, and Ihsan Rustem, the work debuted in Canada to great acclaim last year and the full piece will have its American premiere in this free performance at the Prospect Park Bandshell (Prospect Park West & 9th Street).

The American Black Film Festival (ABFF) commenced day one of the annual event yesterday with a welcome luncheon held by Cadillac, a red carpet reception hosted by Sony, and a screening of the new adaptation of the 1972 classic film, Superfly. Many celebrities were in attendance including Rick Ross and Big Boi, who have roles in the film, and Future who produced the soundtrack that dropped last week.

The New York Philharmonic announces program updates for its Lunar New Year Concert and Gala, led by Long Yu, on Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at 7:30 p.m. The program will feature Andy Akiho's Ricochet, Concerto for Ping Pong, Violin, Percussion, and Orchestra, featuring Philharmonic violinist Elizabeth Zeltser (in her Philharmonic solo debut), ping pong players Ariel Hsing and Michael Landers (Philharmonic debuts), and percussionist David Cossin (Philharmonic debut). As previously announced, the program will also include Li Huanzhi's Spring Festival Overture and Beethoven's Choral Fantasy, with pianist Serena Wang, the Farmers' Chorus of the Yunnan Province, soprano Vanessa Vasquez, tenors Chad Johnson and Issachah Savage, and bass Alex Rosen, all in their Philharmonic debuts (the additional soprano and mezzo-soprano will be announced at a later date).
