There's just something about Kristin Chenoweth. It's almost undefinable, perhaps even undescribable, yet as with any writer's efforts to put into words how remarkable the woman behind the image is, I'll give it my best shot, attempting to encapsulate the wonder that is Kristin Chenoweth in 2,000 words or less (but if I go over, don't judge too harshly - I'm simply stating the facts that prove the folly of my initial hypothesis).

The Sylvan Winds announce the final concert of the 2018 Spring Season celebrating music, art and history. Actors Co-op Theatre Company (Ovation Award-Winner 2017 Best Play, Intimate Theatre for 33 Variations) presents the first show in its 27th Season with the thriller ROPE, written by Patrick Hamilton, directed by Ken Sawyer, produced by Kevin Shewey.  ROPE will preview on Thursday, September 20 at 8pm and will open Friday, September 21 at 8pm and run through Sunday, October 29 at the Actors Co-op Crossley Theatre, 1760 N. REPRISE 2.0, led by Producing Artistic Director Marcia Seligson, in association with the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television Department of Theater (UCLA TFT) chaired by Brian Kite, announces Dawnn Lewis (This Is Us, Major Crimes and IZombie), Valerie Perri (LA Shubert Theatre Evita, Jerome Robbins' Broadway) Larry Cedar (Deadwood), Kelley Dorney (Annie at Hollywood Bowl) and Michael Starr (Bright Star national tour) for its production of The World Goes 'Round with music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb and conceived by Scott Ellis, Susan Stroman, and David Thompson. It will play September 5 through September 16 at UCLA's Freud Playhouse.  

The Actors Fund announced today that tickets are now on sale for a special screening of the original 1933 film King Kong, in partnership with the Jacob Burns Film Center (JBFC) as part of their ongoing film series, 'Life on the Stage: Conversation and Film.' The screening will be followed by a Q&A with members of the creative team of the upcoming Broadway musical

The Philadelphia Young Pianists' Academy (PYPA) will be celebrating its sixth year as an international event from August 5 through August 12, 2018. They are inaugurating a new home for the experience at the prestigious Academy of Vocal Arts located at 1920 Spruce St in Philadelphia. There will be eight days of concerts by world-class pianists, master classes by some of the most highly respected pianists and professors and student concerts. Founder Ching-Yun Hu is pleased to expand the program this year with more concerts and a speaker series.

Goodman Theatre announces a line-up of free staged readings written by members of its Playwrights Unit-a year-long residency for Chicago-based writers to develop their plays-in-progress with the Goodman's artistic team, in partnership with Chicago Dramatists. Members of the 2017/2018 Playwrights Unit include Sam Collier, Ricardo Gamboa, Isaac Gomez, Kristin Idaszak and Nigel O'Hearn. Austin's four premier nonprofit performing arts organizations-Austin Opera, Ballet Austin, The Paramount Theatre, and ZACH Theatre-have partnered to create the ATX Arts Pass. The 2018-19 ATX Arts Pass gives a taste of Austin's performing arts organizations at one low price with four hand-picked performances: Shinyribs (The Paramount Theatre), The Nutcracker (Ballet Austin), Hedwig and the Angry Inch (ZACH Theatre), and La boheme (Austin Opera). ATX Arts Pass holders are encouraged to have their passport stamped at all four events, allowing them the opportunity to attend a special Passport Holder Season End Celebration.

Folks Operetta's 2018 season kicks off with Emmerich Kalman's operetta The Csardas Princess, July 7 - 22, playing at Stage 773, 1225 W. Belmont Ave. The Csardas Princess features the book written by Leo Stein and Bela Jenbach with music by Emmerich Kalman and an English translation by Hersh Glagov and Gerald Frantzen. The Folks Operetta version is directed by Gerald Frantzen and conducted by Mark Taylor. Opening night is Saturday, July 7 at 7:30 p.m. The regular performance schedule is Thursdays - Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $40 for adults, $35 for seniors (65 years and older) and $25 for students (with student ID).

Though the songwriting team of Robert Wright and George Forrest is best remembered by Broadway enthusiasts for adapting the music of Edvard Grieg into SONG OF NORWAY and similarly using the melodies of Alexander Borodin to create their score for KISMET, their greatest success came when director/choreographer Tommy Tune took interest in a musical of theirs that fizzled into obscurity on its way to Broadway, then known as AT THE GRAND.

The Art Directors Guild (ADG) Film Society and the American Cinematheque are co-hosting the annual 2018 Screening Series “Production Design: Designers On Design” highlighting the work of renowned Production Designers and their creative collaborations. The monthly series will run from April through August, and the screenings will alternate between the American Cinematheque's Lloyd E. Rigler Theatre at the Egyptian (6712 Hollywood Boulevard, Hollywood) and the Max Palevsky Theatre at the Aero (1328 Montana Avenue, Santa Monica) with all screenings starting at 5:30 pm. Moderating the screenings are Production Designers THOMAS A.
