The Los Angeles Philharmonic announces its 98th summer season at the Hollywood Bowl. Madison Lyric Stage, a professional theater company serving the Connecticut Shoreline, announced that its 2019 mainstage season will include: Carlisle Floyd's opera Of Mice and Men, based on the John Steinbeck classic, in May/June; the Stephen Sondheim fairy tale musical Into the Woods in July; and, for Halloween, Engelbert Humperdinck's enchanted opera Hansel and Gretel in October. The Marsh Berkeley has announced that due to popular demand it has scheduled an extended run of Lisa Rothman's hit show, Dragon in the Drop-Off Lane. This hilarious and cautionary tale describes what happens when Rothman's Oakland-raised kids venture into the fairytale world of Marin, where all the children seem to know how to sew, speak in a "Crystal Cave whisper," and decorate their (vegan) gingerbread men with stevia icing, carob chips, and unsweetened coconut flakes. Of course, no fairytale would be complete without a fairy godmother to help Rothman reckon with her parenting choices.

The University of Hawai'i at M?noa's Department of Theatre and Dance presents A Midsummer Night's Bollywood Dream on February 1, 2, 8, and 9, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. and February 10, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. on the Kennedy Theatre mainstage. Shakespeare's most popular comedy meets the high-energy song and dance of Bollywood as magic rules the forest and the mischievous creatures play havoc with everyone's love life. The play is co-directed by UHM Professor, Paul Mitri, and Dr. Sai Bhatawadekar, Associate Professor and Director of the Center for South Asian Studies. Original music and lyrics are composed by Ike Webster and Bhatawadekar, who is also the production's dance choreographer.
