In this wildly unprecedented year, Roy and Edna Disney/CalArts Theater (REDCAT), CalArts' center for contemporary arts in downtown Los Angeles, has announced its first-ever all-streaming and virtual season of experimentation, discovery, and lively civic discourse online this fall.

On Friday, October 30, 2020, Sound American releases Something to Hunt, the first ever portrait album of the music of Pulitzer Prize-nominated composer Ash Fure.

With transparency and cautious optimism as guiding pillars, Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company is pleased to announce its 2020-2021 season. Season 41 features the return of a postponed production, new partnerships, a digital season, and an exciting evolution of Woollya??s subscription plan. Anticipated to take place between Fall 2020 and Summer 2021, Woollya??s timeline is designed to be flexible given the rolling nature of the re-opening process. Woolly will announce dates for shows on an ongoing basis, when the theatre is certain it can move forward responsibly, and ensure the health and safety of staff, artists, and audiences. Kinesis Project Dance Theatre's Board of Directors presented Kinesis Project's Annual Spring Gala in a virtual realm on Friday, May 8, 2020, raising more than $10,000 in support of its mission of building and presenting dances that challenge public space and engage diverse communities. The evening was broadcast via Zoom to an audience of nearly one hundred live viewers throughout the country. Additional donations are accepted at kinesisproject.com/support.

With the current theatre world on hiatus, I have created a Spotlight Series of interviews with some of am the many talented artists who make our Los Angeles theatre community so exciting and vibrant thanks to their ongoing contribution to keeping the arts alive in the City of the Angels. And like all of us, how are they dealing with the abrupt end of productions in which they were involved? This Spotlight focuses on Anzu Lawson, an Asian-American Actress, Playwright, Stand-Up Comic, and Yoko Ono doppelganger who I first met during the 2014 Hollywood Fringe Festival.

CoHo Productions, the region's leader in theatrical co-production, announces a milestone collaboration with MediaRites' Theatre Diaspora. The Brothers Paranormal by Prince Gomolvilas, presented as part of CoHo Season 24, marks the first co-production from Theatre Diaspora, a grassroots project started in 2014 to raise awareness and visibility for Asian American theatre and the stories of underrepresented communities through staged readings and community dialogue.

Mark Morris Dance Group & Music Ensemble returns to Jacob's Pillow's Ted Shawn Theatre, July 17-21, restaging both new and beloved repertory. 'A tour de force of artistic storytelling' (The Los Angeles Times), this audience favorite is renowned for deeply witty and poetic dance and has amassed one of the most extensive Pillow performance records of any artist. Mark Morris Dance Group & Music Ensemble performs Prelude and Prelude-a work that has not been performed anywhere since 1992-the new work Sport, excerpts from Words, and the company classic Grand Duo.

Second Thought Theatre begins its landmark fifteenth season with the area premiere of Incognito by Nick Payne. STT Artistic Director Alex Organ returns to helm this year's season opener, having previously directed Grounded (2017), Cock (2014), and A Behanding in Spokane (2013) for STT.

For two nights in a row, I experienced rousing gospel music as part of #TCTheater. In other words, was a good week. The night after seeing Penumbra Theatre's annual gospel rendition of the nativity story BLACK NATIVITY, I attended opening night of Park Square Theatre's regional premiere of the new play MARIE AND ROSETTA, the true story of lesser known gospel legend Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Written by Playwrights' Center affiliated writer George Brant, MARIE AND ROSETTA imagines the night of the first performance of Rosetta and her protege/duet partner Marie Knight. A night in 1946 Mississippi when there was no room at the inn for two black women singers, so they rehearsed and slept in a funeral home with a kindly owner. This play with music paints a beautiful picture of these two very different women, their music, and their relationship, as well as the hardships both faced in their lives and careers, and brings these two musical legends to vivid life. A 'joyful noise' indeed.

From the Water is a domestic drama in a supernatural crisis. Millions of people are disappearing, civilization is moving underground, and the downfalls keep coming. Alex wants to stay, Peter wants to fight, Ava wants closure, and the Numbers are preparing for extinction. This grounded science fiction thriller uses creatures and clones to define what it means to be human, and explores the strength it takes to fight against an unstoppable force.

The Exponential Festival, a month-long January festival for NYC-based emerging artists working in experimental performance, is proud to present the world premiere production of Duet-ed by What Holds Heat. What Holds Heat is a collaboration between Nic Adams (Icarus in the L.E.S.) and Cori Marquis (Cori Marquis + the Nines [IX] and LMnO3). Of their works, they write, "Our kinetic and experiential works of performance seek to extend the boundaries of theatre and expand its power for our audience. Our ensemble-based theatre prioritizes impressionistic storytelling, with subjects ranging from the intimate to the fantastical, while always being grounded in the complexity of human relationships." Since 2015, What Holds Heat has produced three original works for the stage, at venues like Dixon Place, The Bushwick Starr (as part of Target Margin Theater's Stein Labs), and Vital Joint.

After the disappointment of canceling Waitress following the June 13 fire at the Kentucky Center, Broadway in Louisville kicks off the current season in spectacular style. The 2014 Broadway production of Disney's Aladdin flew into Louisville this week for an extended run.

To celebrate the upcoming holiday season, three-time GRAMMY® nominee Joey Alexander will release A Joey Alexander Christmas, a four-track digital-only EP, set for November 2 release on Motéma Music. The EP follows the release of the 15-year-old's critically acclaimed spring album Eclipse as well as his recent September collaboration on the socially conscious Legion of Peace project.

Keys N Krates' ode to classic R&B delivers a healthy dose of electronic soul on “Music To My Ears,” featuring fellow Canadian and Grammy-nominated vocalist Tory Lanez. Taken from the Toronto trio's debut album Cura, dynamic strings and reverberant bass provide a joyous backbone to Lanez's uplifting hook. Today the official music video for “Music To My Ears” premieres on THE FADER. Directed by Nathan Boey, the humorous visual follows a puppet version Tory Lanez navigating a series of dates, soundtracked by puppet versions of Keys N Krates.
