Seattle Opera today announced its captivating 2011/12 season, featuring an American treasure, the greatest French opera, the company premiere of a work by Verdi, one of opera's fundamental love stories, and a beloved Puccini tragedy. The season opens with Porgy and Bess in July, followed by Carmen in the fall and Attila, Orphée et Eurydice, and Madama Butterfly in 2012.

The American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) announced today that Artistic Director Diane Paulus, Pulitzer prize-winning writer Suzan-Lori Parks, and two-time Obie winner Diedre Murray have been chosen by the Gershwin Trusts and the Heyward Trust to re-imagine the Gershwins' seminal American opera Porgy and Bess.
According to an article in the NY Times, Pulitzer Prize winning playwright, Suzan-Lori Parks is collaborating with Diedre Murray, to create a new musical version of 'Porgy and Bess.' The show would feature rearrangements from George Gershwin's opera. Diane Paulus is set to direct the production, which is to premiere at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts next September.
