From Hollywood Slasher To Casino Manager! Getting Up Close and Personal With The Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa's New General Manager, CJ Graham
by David Green - Jul 19, 2013

The Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa recently named accomplished gaming executive, C.J. Graham as its new General Manager. Graham has more than two decades of experience in the gaming and hospitality industry, including senior-level positions at the Palms Casino Resort, Wynn and Flamingo, in Las Vegas. His connection to Hollywood? Graham starred as the hockey-masked killer, Jason Voorhees, in the 1986 slasher film Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives. The Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa is home The Show -- one of the finest, state of the art concert venues in the Western United States. I had the opportunity to sit down with the charismatic and likeable Mr. Graham a few days ago. Here are a few excerpts from that conversation.

Sheldon Cohen M.D. Launches Website Showcasing His 21 Books
by Christina Mancuso - Jun 26, 2013

Upon retiring from a busy 40 year medical career, Dr. Cohen sought out a mind stimulating activity. Writing books seemed like a good idea, but how to start? Especially since the only previous writing emanating from the author were patient medical reports. Fifteen years ago, at age 68, the 'young' author sat down and started work on a medical murder mystery that had been incubating in his mind for many years prior to retirement. Four years of writing activity resulted in Brainstorm. Lo and behold, a publisher accepted the book, worked to publish it for many months-and declared bankruptcy. Welcome to the publishing world! Not dissuaded and fascinated by writing art and science, the next ten years saw many self-published print books pouring out of the author's computer followed by 21 (so far) ebooks in multiple genres including: Historical Fiction (World War II and Jewish history), Historical Fiction (nuclear bomb development), Fiction (medical murder mysteries), Fiction (medical diagnostic puzzle), Non-Fiction (medical), Fiction (terrorism), History (terrorism), History (physics), Healthcare, Autobiography, Children Story Poems. The author will continue writing as long as the years permit.

Noel Coward's Rarely Done FALLEN ANGELS Lights Up Pasadena Playhouse
by Don Grigware - Feb 5, 2013

The terribly witty genius Noel Coward was a poet, playwright, screen writer and music composer extraordinaire whose theatrical hits in the 30s and 40s were unparalleled successes in both the UK and elsewhere abroad... and in the United States. His farce Fallen Angels is rarely if ever produced and it gives 6 actors, especially the 3 women a field day, in which they can go as far over the top as their hearts desire all the while keeping the audience eating out of their hands. Actors love to act and Art Manke's cast at the Pasadena Playhouse are certainly no exception. They are deliciously campy, irreverent and full of the dickens... or should I say Coward?

InDepth InterView: Rob Morrow & Robert D. Wachs Discuss New Paul Jabara Disco Musical LAST DANCE & More
by Pat Cerasaro - Sep 1, 2012

Today we are focusing a super-special spotlight on one of the Fall's most intriguing musical entries trying out in New York, the York Theatre Company's lab mounting of the new Paul Jabara jukebox musical LAST DANCE, by talking to the show's lead, recognizable TV and film star Rob Morrow, and the show's lead producer, noted comedic shepherd and filmmaker Robert D. Wachs, whom filled me in on all aspects of the show in a comprehensive chat late last week just prior to this week's start of rehearsals. In this all-encompassing conversation, Morrow, Wachs and I discuss the genesis of the new disco-themed musical celebrating the life and career of Jabara, the accomplished Emmy, Grammy and Academy Award-winning composer of Broadway shows (RACHAEL LILY ROSENBLOOM… AND DON'T YOU EVER FORGET IT), movie songs ("Last Dance" from THANK GOD IT'S FRIDAY; the titular "The Main Event") and numerous pop/rock/disco hits, such as "It's Raining Men" by The Weather Girls, Barbra Streisand and Donna Summer's epic disco duet "Enough Is Enough (No More Tears)" and his many solo hits, as well as the finer points of the story, concept, casting and the ultimate goals of the new Philip William McKinley-directed production, which features a book by Shaun McKenna. Additionally, Morrow and Wachs each generously share showbiz tales from their storied careers involving such big names as Eddie Murphy, Michael Bennett, Jonathan Larson, Tony Scott and many more and both copiously convey their infectious enthusiasm for the forthcoming fully-produced lab presentation of the new musical that will play for five performances beginning September 20 as they prepare for its first viewing before a paying audience. All of that and much, much more awaits!

Women Fully Clothed: Older and Hotter is the much anticipated sequel to Women Fully Clothed, a rip-roaring comedy show by four of Canada's leading comediennes. Eugene Levy has called them 'the funniest women in Canada' and Martin Short said the show was 'totally hysterical, funny and smart' and now BWW is speaking with each leading lady about the challenging nature of being comediennes in a male-dominated forum, their Second City backgrounds and what effects age have had on them as performers. BWW EXCLUSIVE: Shaiman & Wittman Talk SMASH, CATCH ME & More!
by Pat Cerasaro - May 18, 2011

Legends in their own time, ascending to the top ranks of the Hollywood and Broadway songwriting landscape, Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman have accomplished and climbed to heights most of what many film fans, Broadway babies and general entertainment junkies only dream of witnessing and ascending to. Marc Shaiman's work with Trey Parker and Matt Stone on SOUTH PARK: BIGGER, LONGER & UNCUT prompted Stephen Sondheim - as he told me himself - to cite it as one of the best musicals of the era. And, it is - as is their Tony-winning Best Musical HAIRSPRAY, based on the film by Pope of Trash John Waters. Featuring John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Zac Efron, Queen Latifah and an all-around-amazing cast of triple-threats, the stunning Craig Zadan/Neil Meron-produced film version of HAIRSPRAY may be the greatest cinematic Shaiman and/or Wittman accomplishment so far. Then, there is CATCH ME IF YOU CAN - one of the snappiest new scores on Broadway in a strangely strong season of original scores - boasting boss Sinatra blues and sizzling Shirelles riffs and everything else that's swingin' in between. Up next for the team - onstage and off - is a stage adaptation of Roald Dahl's CHARLIE & THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY directed by Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes, in addition to what is perhaps the most exciting prospect on their impossibly cluttered horizon: the new Steven Speilberg/Craig Zadan/Neil Meron musical/comedy/drama series SMASH which has just been picked up for the Fall season on NBC! In this exclusive, extensive and exhaustive conversation we cover it all from HAIRSPRAY to CATCH ME to CHARLIE to all about SMASH and far, far beyond!

As one of the founding members of the group, Walter Chase recently spoke with me about his passion for music, the trials and tribulations - and joys - of a capella singing, touring the world as part of a group, fame, as well as all about the dazzling brand new Straight No Chaser DVD/2-CD box set ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS, which will be released this week, featuring over thirty holiday tracks - and a few surprises, too! Also, you can catch Straight No Chaser live in concert on December 1 as part of the Live From T5 concert series.

A Tribute to Jerry Bock by Glen Roven
by Robert Diamond - Nov 7, 2010

When I heard the brilliant composer Jerry Bock had died last week, I made my own private listening memorial: I programmed a play list of his songs on my iPod -- "I Love A Cop," "Politics and Poker," "What Makes Me Love Him?" "Will He Like Me?" "Vanilla Ice Cream" and course the entire score to Fiddler. What joy he gave me, and I know he will continue to give me long into the future.
