In 1992, a small fishing town in Nova Scotia, Canada launched the Liverpool International Theatre Festival, hoping to attract tourism. Little Theatre of Norfolk will perform there this fall under director John B. Gillis, who lived in Nova Scotia back when the festival first formed. Gillis took a few moments away from directing and fundraising to tell us about the theatre festival and the show he's bringing there, The Commedia Rapunzel.

The Consulate General of France in New York, The World Jewish Congress (WJC), and the Musée d'art et d'histoire du Judaïsme in Paris (MahJ) present Jewish Survival and Rescue in Occupied France, on the evenings of March 4 & 5 at the Museum of Jewish Heritage in Manhattan (36 Battery Pl, New York, NY 10280). This two-day symposium features lectures and panel discussions by eminent historians, sociologists, and survivors, including Pierre Sauvage, whose newly remastered documentary Weapons of the Spirit will conclude the event. Jewish Survival and Rescue in Occupied France is a highlight of France and Judaism: 2,000 Years of Intertwined History, a series of conferences and lectures organized by the Consulate in partnership with the WJC, curated by MahJ Director Paul Salmona, and held at various New York City venues.

The La Paloma Prisoner Project is Raquel Almaƶán's theatre and outreach project about the reclamation of identity by incarcerated and formerly incarcerated women, and sharing those stories through workshops, advocacy and community partnerships. Developed from her longstanding work with incarcerated and impacted communities, the associated play, LA PALOMA PRISONER, directed by Estefanía Fadul, will have its World Premiere at Next Door @ New York Theatre Workshop (79 East 4th Street between Bowery & 2nd Avenue) alongside a series of initiatives aimed at raising awareness and inciting action towards the end of global mass incarceration. There's blood on my program. At first, I thought it was a printing design, but upon further inspection, I realized that, yes, I have blood stains on my program. Normally, I would be concerned, but given that the first three rows at the Moonlight Players Theatre have been designated 'Splatter Zone,' I didn't think much more of it from the safety of my seventh-row seat. Having played out to sold out crowds in its first and second weeks, Moonlight Players' EVIL DEAD: THE MUSICAL will end its run this coming post-Halloween weekend. But fear not, Deadites, for you can also catch Ash Williams and his boomstick on a special Halloween performance as well. The hugely-popular Off-Broadway musical condenses Sam Raimi's Evil Dead trilogy into a two-act musical that celebrates the films' subversive comedy take on 1980s gore. And it does so with a gusto and a panache that knows just how ridiculous and trope-heavy the source material is.

Stop the presses! Disney's hit musical Newsies is coming to Grand Rapids Civic Theatre!

Today, D23, the official Disney fan club, has announced the eleven recipients for the 2019 Disney Legends Award. This year's recipients are Bette Midler, Wing Chao, Robert Downey Jr., Jon Favreau, James Earl Jones, Kenny Ortega, Barnette Ricci, Robin Roberts, Diane Sawyer, Ming-Na Wen, and Hans Zimmer. 

The anxiously-anticipated arrival of Aladdin is finally here! The national tour stops in Sacramento through June 2 and brings with it the songs that you know and love from the 1992 animated movie, along with new numbers written specifically for the stage musical. After its debut on Broadway in 2014, it was nominated for 5 Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Original Score. Broadway World Sacramento was able to speak with Reggie DeLeon, who originated the role of Iago on the national tour and has returned after a brief hiatus. Reggie is well-known for his recurring role as Shep in the Pup Star films. He can also be seen on 'MOM' (Paul), 'Superior Donuts' (Zale), and 'Melissa & Joey' (Wyatt).

Bay Street Theater is pleased to announce the cast and creative team for the first show of the 2019 Mainstage Season. The World Premiere of THE PROMPTER (May 28- June 16) a new comedy by Wade Dooley; will be directed by Scott Schwartz, Bay Street Theater's Artistic Director.

When the movie, GUESS WHO'S COMING TO DINNER, began filming in March 1967, it was still illegal for interracial couples to marry in fourteen states, mostly in the South. Changing attitudes in the country and the landmark case Loving v. Virginia coincided with the production of the movie and by the end of the year, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of Mr. and Mrs. Loving, ruling that marriage is a fundamental human right and effectively ending all anti-miscegenation marriage laws in America.

Berkshire Theatre Group (BTG) will present Disney's Aladdin JR., April 26-28 at The Colonial Theatre, featuring Berkshire elementary and middle school students. This production is directed by Travis Daly, with music direction by Erin M. White and choreography by Kathy Jo Grover.
