The Tony Award®-winning Signature Theatre last night honored esteemed stage actress Patti LuPone with the company's third Stephen Sondheim Award. The award, established in 2009 in honor of America's most influential contemporary musical theater writer and composer, was presented at a black-tie Gala Benefit last night, April 16, 2012 at the Embassy of Italy in Washington, DC. Patti LuPone won her second Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical, as well Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards, for her performance as Rose in the most recent Broadway production of Gypsy, and created the title role in Evita on Broadway with her now legendary performance, for which she won her first Tony and Drama Desk Awards. On July 4th and 5th she will make her Provincetown debut at The Art House, with Sirius/Radio star Seth Rudetsky at the piano, for 3 shows only. Producers Jeffrey Richards and Jerry Frankel announced that the American premiere of THE ANARCHIST, the new play about politics, money, religion and sex, written and directed by DAVID MAMET. The production will star two-time Tony Award winner PATTI LUPONE, who has previously appeared in Mamet's The Woods, All Men are Whores, The Blue Hour, The Water Engine, Edmond and The Old Neighborhood and three-time Emmy Award winner LAURIE METCALF, who was nominated for a 2008 Tony Award for her performance in Mamet's November. The Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall announces a 2011-2012 Season rife with star-studded talent.

Broadway legend Mandy Patinkin and opera superstar Nathan Gunn combine their vocal talents to create a unique and powerful evening at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 31, in the pavilion. Featured in People magazine's 2008 list of 'The Sexiest Men Alive,' baritone Gunn has performed in opera houses around the world and last appeared at Ravinia in the festival's production of Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro. Tony and Emmy award-winner Patinkin has appeared in the Broadway productions of Evita, Sunday in the Park with George, The Wild Party, The Winter's Tale and The Knife, as well as in CBS's Chicago Hope and Criminal Minds. They will be joined by pianists Julie Gunn and Paul Ford.
