East Neuk Festival Seeks Hundreds Of Performers To Drum Up A Storm

The East Neuk Festival is making an open call for people of all ages and musical abilities to take part in the festival's 2019 Big Project.

ENF's annual Big Projects bring together community and professional musicians to create a special performance inspired by the landscape, heritage or history of the East Neuk. As part of the 15th East Neuk Festival which takes place from 26-30 June, the 2019 ENF Big Project will team the world-renowned star Scottish percussionist Colin Currie and his Colin Currie Quartet with massed participants of the East Neuk to perform a set of epic sea-inspired interludes created by Graeme Leak.

An open call out is being made for at least 100 performers of any age (7+) or ability: Graeme Leak will teach everyone all they need to know in special workshop sessions, and will lead the world premiere performance at Waid Academy in Anstruther, Fife on Saturday 29 June as part of a concert which also sees the Colin Currie Quartet performing the music of Steve Reich and Kevin Volans.

Festival Director, Svend McEwan-Brown, says: "This will be our 5th Big Project - and every year I love seeing the amazing amount of pleasure and sense of achievement that people who join in can get out of them. The idea is to come together to create something truly world class and exciting - and to do that in the company of some of the top musicians in the world. This year, Graeme Leak has taken the sea and its weather for inspiration - so expect storms and high winds as well as sunshine and surf. We need as many people as possible to join us for this to make sure that storm really takes the roof off Waid Academy!"

No musical experience or training is required to take part in the 2019 ENF Big Project and all instruments will be provided. Rehearsal sessions will take place between 26-29 June in venues in and around Anstruther, Fife ahead of the performance on Saturday 29 June at Waid Academy from 2.30pm - 3.30pm.
