Van Wezel to Feature New Shanghai Circus

New Shanghai Circus, founded in 1951, has won more Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals in domestic and international circus competitions than any other Chinese acrobatic company. Breathtaking and polished to perfection, their skills have their roots in everyday lives of village peasants, farmers and craftsman of the Han Dynasty. Experience this spectacular live performance at the Van Wezel on Sunday, February 10 at 3 p.m.!

Ancient stone carvings, earthen pottery and early written work trace the ancestry of today's spectacular Chinese acrobatics as far back as 700 B.C. Performers passed their skills down from generation to generation, and great acrobatic families of China entertained everyone from city rulers to village people, performing at ceremonial carnivals and public theaters across the country. Only a few descendants of the famous acrobatic families remain today, and they have organized China's traditional entertainers into professional acrobatic troupes with formal academies for training young entertainers and internationally renowned companies.

Tickets are $22-$52 with limited sections remaining. Purchase at VanWezel.org, the Box Office or by calling (941) 953-3368. Groups of 10 or more should contact (941) 363-2025. This show is part of the Boars Head Family Series.
