FST's Presents REEL MUSIC

Florida Studio Theatre (FST) announces its first-ever cabaret-style children's show, Reel Music, a musical journey through the history and heart of the movies. Featuring songs from such hit movies as The Wizard of Oz, Frozen, Moana, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, The Lego Movie, and Trolls, this blockbuster musical adventure will entertain fans of classic black and white films and brightly animated movies alike.

Reel Music opens June 21 and runs through August 9 on select dates at 11:00 am and 1:00pm in FST's Bowne's Lab Theatre. A full schedule of shows can be found below. Single tickets are just $10 per show, and groups of 8 or more can attend performances at $8 per ticket. Since 2016, FST's Children's Theatre subscriptions have almost tripled in size, and continue to grow. FST's Cabaret has also been a much-loved program that expands year after year. Given the success of these two programs, FST decided to combine them in this special show. "We know from our holiday Children's Theatre show, Deck the Halls, that our young audience members respond to music as much, if not more, than adult audiences," shared FST's Director of Children's Theatre, Caroline Kaiser. "I think that a great part of our Children's Theatre is the variety and the opportunity to expose children to different types of theatre, and Cabaret is yet another expressive art form that we can bring to our audiences."

FST's Director of Artistic Operations, Greg London, worked with Kaiser and FST Teaching Artist Denee Lortz to create Reel Music. London will also be directing this production. Previously, London directed FST's 2017 special holiday-themed Children's Theatre production, Deck the Halls. Four newly-arrived FST Acting Apprentices-Kayla Fainer, Jabri Johnson, Erin Paxton, and Liam Tanner-will be performing in this summer musical revue.

Reel Music will be just the beginning of cabaret and musical storytelling for many children. Kaiser explained, "I want our young audiences to know that theatre is an art form that comes to them where they are, and that there are so many different types of theatre to explore. Cabaret is a great way to reach younger audiences with music, and in this case, many songs they already know and love."

The songs in this impactful music revue are much more than just "favorite tunes." Instead, they enhance the storytelling onscreen and touch audiences' hearts, regardless of age. Families can bring their 3- and 13- year-olds to Reel Music to share an enjoyable, entertaining experience.
