Broadway & TV Star Megan Hilty to Perform in Concert with Utah Valley Symphony

Megan Hilty may epitomize the image of a blonde bombshell, but she's also bringing her blockbuster Broadway talent and powerhouse vocals to SCERA Shell Outdoor Theatre Saturday, Sept. 1, accompanied by the Utah Valley Symphony.

Buzzfeed's Louis Peitzman said of Hilty, "She's a star. She has always been a star." The perfect accolade for a woman who sang "Let Me Be Your Star" on the hit NBC television drama "Smash," and a signature song she will also perform under the stars at the SCERA concert.

"Megan is clearly a star on the rise," says Adam J. Robertson, SCERA'S President & CEO, "and we are privileged to have her for one spectacular performance."

The concert will begin at 8 p.m. at the SCERA Shell Outdoor Theatre, 699 S. State St., in the center of SCERA Park in Orem. General admission tickets are $25 for adults, and $20 for kids 3-11 and seniors 65 and older. Reserved areas with a free chair range from $30 to $40 for adults, and $25 to $35 for children and seniors. Hilty's extensive Broadway and TV resume resembles a Who's Who and What's What list.

Hilty is probably best-known on Broadway, where she made her debut as the standby for Glinda, the Good Witch in "Wicked" at the George Gershwin Theatre before taking over the role for a year alongside Idina Menzel. She then starred in the musical's first national tour. At the concert, she will perform "Popular" and "For Good" from the wickedly popular musical.

In 2009, Megan starred on Broadway as "Doralee" in 9 to 5: The Musical, Dolly Parton's adaptation of the popular film. She was nominated for a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actress in a Musical, an Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Actress in a Musical, a Drama League Award, and an Ovation Award for Best Actress in a Musical.

For two seasons, she had a starring role in the television show, "Smash" as Ivy Lynn, an actress who is desperate to land the lead in a musical about the life of Marilyn Monroe. It was a perfect fit for the real life Broadway star, and for fans of the show, she will sing some of the hits from the series including "They Just Keep Moving The Line" and "Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend" as an ode to Marilyn, another star of stage and screen.

During her hiatus between Smash's first and second seasons, Megan played "Lorelei Lee" in the New York City Center production of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Megan received acclaim for both the production and its cast recording. Ben Brantley of The New York Times called the opening performance "...one of those single, golden nights, so cherished by theatergoers, that thrust its leading lady into the firmament of musical stardom."

2013 brought the release of Megan's first solo album, It Happens All the Time, as well as her sold-out Carnegie Hall debut. Later that year, she joined the cast of NBC's Sean Saves the World, starring Sean Hayes. She has appeared in nearly a dozen movies, including her first role as the singing voice of Snow White in Shrek the Third.

In 2015, Megan starred in a one night only performance of Bombshell and a two night presentation of Annie Get Your Gun at New York City Center. She also returned to the Broadway stage as "Brooke Ashton" in Noises Off. For her performance, she received a 2016 Tony Award nomination for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Play, as well as Drama Desk and Drama League Award nominations.

Since Noises Off ended its run in March 2016, Megan has guest-starred on Project Runway, Difficult People, Brain Dead, and The Good Wife and has released two albums: Megan Hilty Live at the Café Carlyle and A Merry Little Christmas. She maintains an active concert schedule, both with symphony orchestras throughout the United States and in solo concerts, receiving rave reviews for her mix of Broadway, American classics, contemporary music and ballads.

Most recently, in late July, the charming star played Lily St. Regis in the Hollywood Bowl production of "Annie."

Hilty and her husband, Brian Gallagher, have two children.
