An Other Theater Co. Opens Second Season With THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME

Opening September 7th, An Other Theater Company will be presenting the West End smash hit and 2015 Tony winner for Best Play, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, as their second season opener.

All 15-year-old Christopher John Francis Boone wants is to take his maths A-Level and get an A Star mark. However, when he finds his neighbor's dog Wellington murdered in the middle of the night, Christopher decides he must begin investigating in order to discover the truth. The play, based on the best-selling novel by Mark Haddon, centers around a teenage boy on the autistic spectrum as he navigates the world around him.

The show has a strong focus on family relationships, and how to be supportive of your family members even though you may not always understand them. Dianna Graham, who plays Christopher's mother Judy says on playing the role, "I can really appreciate Judy's overwhelm in trying to be a mum to child who she cannot even hug and who will probably never say 'Thank you' or 'I love you.' Christopher and Judy's journey together reminds me that real family lives are not Pinterest pretty. They are usually very messy, and they don't always leave you feeling like a rockstar. And that's not why you do it. You do the best you can, because your child needs you, and you love them, and your best is usually all they need."

On bringing the play to Utah County, director Kacey Spadafora says, "This show in particular has been great to work on as it explores and gives voice to an underrepresented part of the population that we've not had on our stage before. We felt strongly about bringing this piece to Utah Valley for that reason, both wanting to give this story the exposure it deserves and knowing that, because of content, no other theater in the valley would be able to produce it."

The play runs Fridays and Saturdays September 7th-29th at 7:30pm in AOTC's blackbox theater tin the Provo Towne Centre. There will also be one sensory-friendly matinee at 2:00pm on the 22nd.

An Other Theater Company seeks to provide a voice to many who are overlooked in the mainstream local theatre scene, including stipulations in its season selection process to highlight works by and about women as well as the LGBT community.
