Review: SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS Dazzles at Broadway At Music Circus

Sometimes it's risky to bring older musicals back to life-the language, attitudes, and music can be dated and dull to today's audiences; however, the old seems new again with Broadway at Music Circus' take on the classic musical, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. This fresh staging secures Broadway at Music Circus as THE place to be this summer in Sacramento.

The stage version is based on the 1954 movie of the same name and tells the story of Adam Pontipee (Edward Watts), a brawny mountain man, who is searching for a wife. On a visit into town, he comes across Milly (Paige Faure) working in a tavern and is impressed with her cooking. She accepts a proposal from him, despite having just met him, and is excited to be cooking and cleaning for one man only. To her surprise, when they get back up the mountain, she finds out that Adam is one of seven brothers-none of whom have any etiquette at all. Her vision of finding them each a bride doesn't go quite as planned, and the show is a delight of one madcap scene after another.

Watts and Faure bring their Broadway voices to the round and join a stellar cast that keep you dancing in your seat. Watts is the epitome of a burly, virile alpha male in "Bless Your Beautiful Hide". Faure's Milly sings a beautiful testament to the power and endurance of love in "Love Never Goes Away". Patti Colombo's vibrant, athletic and energetic choreography garnered a mid-show standing ovation with the acrobatic feast for the senses, "Social Dance". From bad advice in "Sobbin' Women" to old-fashioned chaos in "The Chase", this is a show that leaves no room for a slow moment. This is, without a doubt, the best show that I have ever seen at Broadway at Music Circus and one of the most riveting shows that I have seen anywhere. This is the one that you will not want to miss.
