B Street Theatre Presents THE LEGEND OF GEORGIA MCBRIDE The Legend of Georgia McBride received its World Premiere at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts in December of 2014 and since then, has become one of the most produced new plays in American regional theatres with productions by Marin Theatre, The Guthrie, Arden Theatre, ACT in Seattle, Cygnet Theatre Company, Hippodrome State Theatre, Uptown Theatres, and others.

The Legend of Georgia McBride made its New York debut at the Lucille Lortel Theatre in September 2015 and closed October of 2015 and received strong reviews from the New York Times, New York Post, and other publications.

In an interview with the LA Times, Matthew Lopez illustrated the accessibility of drag by recapping a moment from his play when the Elvis impersonator Casey says "I don't know anything about doing drag" and one of the drag queens responds, "Like that's ever stopped anyone from doing drag." Lopez told the LA Times, "I think that's true to a large extent, but for those who really do know how to do it, who are experts in it, it's a fascinating transformation to watch. I wanted to see that happen onstage-of course, an abbreviated, madcap version of it, because to fully get into drag can take hours."

The story is as follows: Casey is young, he's broke, his landlord's knocking at the door, and he's just found out his wife is going to have a baby. To make matters even more desperate, Casey is fired from his gig as an Elvis impersonator in a run-down, small-town Florida bar. When the bar owner brings in a B-level drag show to replace his act, Casey finds that he has a whole lot to learn about show business-and himself.

The Legend of Georgia McBride at the B Street Theatre

B Street Theatre's first Mainstage season at The Sofia has been full of great plays, each complementing one another in different ways. When selecting the play that would finish off this momentous year, Artistic Producer Dave Pierini was looking for a play that would close the season with a bang: "I wanted a play that was fun, humorous, and had a ton of heart."

The Legend of Georgia McBride was the obvious choice. "I read the play and instantly knew it was a story we had to produce. It's a hilarious play, full of great characters and great heart."

The play will feature Pierini, as well as long time company member Danielle Mone Truitt, who will be returning to B Street Theatre after an 8-year hiatus and Cameron Folmar, who will make his B Street Theatre debut.
