Epic Theatre Presents LIZZIE BORDEN, LIZZIE BORDEN

Epic Theatre Company is excited to announce the World Premiere of "Lizzie Borden, Lizzie Borden" written and directed by Epic's Artistic Director Kevin Broccoli. The play is far from a historical narrative. Instead, it uses the story of Lizzie Borden and Lo, a young woman with a tragic and somewhat iconic past, to explore the nature of destiny, reality, and how one gets caught up in a narrative.

"This is one of those big stories we love telling at Epic," says Broccoli, "It uses the story of Lizzie Borden as a jumping off point and quickly starts taking every twist and turn you can think of--time travel, witchcraft, and Jane Austen. It's all there."

It's 1892 in Fall River, Massachusetts, and Lizzie Borden is on the verge of committing a horrific crime--or is she? Meanwhile, years later, in Atlantic City, Lo is working at a cheap casino trying desperately to find a way out. Soon, people start dropping dead, and she finds herself heading North. How these two characters and their lives intersect and nearly collide is a wild ride through fiction, reality, and something in between.

"Lizzie Borden, Lizzie Borden" is also the first play in a series of interconnected works written by Broccoli that will constitute the biggest project Epic has undertaken.

"Lizzie is the beginning of a truly Epic project that's going to span a series of plays," says Broccoli, "That includes American Drag, our next World Premiere that's happening in April. Similar to a Cinematic Universe like Marvel, these plays can stand on their own, but there are also connections in all of them that reward audiences and foster the idea that theater can still be an event on par with what you see on film. The goal is to enrich the vitality of theater through scope and storytelling."

"Lizzie Borden, Lizzie Borden" continues the partnership between Epic and the Academy Players in Providence. After the successful run of "The Motherf***er with the Hat" in October, Epic is thrilled to be bringing another ambitious production there.

"I just finished playing Hedwig at Academy, and it's truly become one of my favorite places to do theater in Rhode Island. Rita and her team continue to welcome us with open arms, and I think a theater this size is the perfect venue for a show that's easily one of the biggest artistic swings we've ever taken at the theater."

"Lizzie Borden, Lizzie Borden" runs March 8th - 17th for a very limited run at the James and Gloria Maron Cultural Arts Center home of the Academy Players located at 180 Button Hole Drive, Providence RI 02909.
