TheaterWorks offers a night of musical comedy to start out the MasterWorks Series in 2019. A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum is on stage in the Gyder Theater February 15th through March 3rd at the Peoria Center for the Performing Arts.

Pseudolus, a Roman slave, must unite his young master, Hero, with the girl next door in order to win his freedom. A seemingly easy feat turns difficult though when they learn that she has been sold to another. Join us in ancient Rome to witness the chaos that ensues in this quest for freedom and love.

This fast-paced farce combines some of the original roots of comedy, drawing it's plot from the ancient comedies of Plautus while utilizing a vaudevillian style. The title itself derives from a line often used by vaudeville comedians to begin a story: "A funny thing happened on the way to the theater". Come enjoy a night of slamming doors, mistaken identities and uproarious laughter in a show that promises, "Something for everyone: a comedy tonight."
