Scottsdale Arts Offers Discounts For Veterans

The Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art and Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts are celebrating veterans this November. These promotions are a part of the Scottsdale Arts veteran and active military outreach program that visitors can take advantage of throughout the month.

Veterans, active military and their families that visit SMoCA can present a valid military-issued I.D. to receive free admission. Prices are regularly $10 for adults and $7 for students, seniors (65+) and veterans. However, eligible visitors will be able to experience "NKAME: A Retrospective of Cuban Printmaker Belkis Ayón (1967-1999)" and "Double Agents: Carla Fernández and Pedro Reyes" for free through November. Visitors can enjoy the cooler weather in SMoCA's outdoor courtyard and the luminous "Scrim Wall" while visiting the James Turrell skyspace "Knight Rise." Additionally, they can view artist Janel Garza's new mural.

The Center has an array of concerts and shows happening this November from family-friendly theatre to musical performances. During November; veterans, active military and their families can take advantage of the following free performances at the Center. To get their free tickets, patrons are encouraged to call the Center Box Office at 480-499-8587, Tuesday - Saturday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sunday noon-5 p.m.

Based on real stories written by kids, this family-friendly sketch comedy musical gives children in the audience a chance to craft an improvised portion of each performance.

SCOTTSDALE MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART
Founded in 1999, Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMoCA) explores the best of contemporary art, architecture and design. Global in its focus, the Museum is a unique and vital cultural resource for the Southwest, serving local audiences as well as visitors from the United States and abroad. Designed by award-winning architect Will Bruder, SMoCA's minimalist building (an ingenious renovation of a former movie theater) has four galleries for showcasing changing exhibitions and works from the Museum's collection, along with SMoCA Lounge, a living, functional art installation and space for community engagement. The Museum presents a wide variety of educational programs and special events for adults and families, including lectures, readings, performances, docent-led tours, workshops and classes.
