It's February 14th, you just got home from a freezing commute, and are finally able to put your feet up and relax. Your significant other walks in all gussied up. They circle around you, acting suspiciously similar to Samantha Baker in Sixteen Candles.

Then you realize: it's Valentine's Day and you have nothing planned! Time to improvise.

Luckily, theaters across Philadelphia are doing the same thing. These Valentine's Day themed improv shows will come in handy for a last-minute night of love and laughs.

  1. Oculum: Improv Inspired by Relationships at Philly Improv Theatre

The Feature: Improvise your Valentine's Day 8-person cast of this improv show will perform comedy skits based on the emotions that come with being in a relationship. Expect lots of exaggerated physicality and some silly takes on the day-to-day experience of being in love. The show runs one night only at 7 p.m. on Valentine's Day. Tickets can be purchased HERE.
  2. Not Yet Rated: An Improvised Rom-Com at Philly Improv Theater

Feature: Improvise your Valentine's Day This show allows for some "Whose Line..."-style audience interaction. The cast will come up with a romantic comedy on the spot based on a title suggested by the audience. Not Yet Rated will include your favorite rom-com archetypes, like "hopeless romantics, klutzes, uptight bosses, players, journalist on assignment, and free spirits" getting into some unscripted situations based on love. The curtain for Not Yet Rated goes up directly after Oculum at 8 p.m. on February 14, perfect for an improv double-header! Other performances take place from February 13 through 16. Tickets can be purchased HERE.
  3. The Love Experiment at Tongue & Groove Spontaneous Theater

Feature: Improvise your Valentine's Day The New York Times published a list of 36 questions meant to make two people fall in love and Tongue & Groove is putting it to the test. The cast will improvise hilarious skits based on audience member responses to the 36 questions. Before the show, enjoy a cash bar and a private booth where you can test the final challenge from the New York Times: stare into your partner's eyes for four minutes straight. This show is perfect for new couples who want to get to know each other better and share a laugh while doing it. The show has two performances, both at 8 p.m. on February 14 and 15. Tickets can be purchased HERE.

Is improv not your vibe? Check out some other romantic performances in the area, like A Comedy of Tenors at the Walnut Street Theatre or The Bridges of Madison County at Philadelphia Theatre Company.
