LOVE SONGS at 54 Below featured 'love songs' written by new musical theater composers Will Buck, Lauren Marcus, Ryan Scott Oliver, Drew Overcash, Alexander Sage Oyen, Georgia Stitt, and Zoe Sarnak on February 10, 2014. A portion of the proceeds went directly to the VDAY Foundation, a global activist movement to end violence against women and girls. Click below to watch some of the performances!

Broadway Producer Ken Davenport and Davenport Theatrical just presented the first annual Davenport Songwriting Contest. 10 songs competed for the title of 'Best Song' and a $500 Grand Prize. The contest was held at the Davenport Theatre (354 West 45th Street New York, NY 10036) on January 30th, 2014. Click below and continue through the playlist to watch all the performances!

Our featured composer this week is Ryan Scott Oliver. Here is his song "Halfway" sung by Morgan Karr (Spring Awakening) and Jay Armstrong Johnson (Hands on a Hardbody) at our Cutting-Edge Composers concert at the Canal Room. We asked Ryan where he got the inspiration for the song and this was his reply:

The Los Angeles based Festival of New American Musicals was formed specifically to cultivate new American musicals and nurture America's musical youth. SHOWSEARCH, the Festival's nation-wide search for the best ten minute musical written by 16-to-25-year-olds crowned its winners March 23rd in Los Angeles at the Ramon C. Cortines School of Visual and Performing Arts, in cooperation with the LAUSD. Check out the video below!

The debut album from composer Ryan Scott Oliver, 35MM: A Musical Exhibition (Original Cast Recording), will be released digitally on Tuesday, August 14th by Ghostlight Records. The album will be available in stores on Tuesday, September 11th. (Pre-orders for the recording are now being taken at http://sh-k-boom.com/35mm.shtml.) An album release concert is being planned for mid-September, about which additional details will be announced shortly.
