Maine State Music Theatre opens its 54th season with the Tony Award-winning musical phenomenon A CHORUS LINE. Starting the season off with a high kick, A CHORUS LINE opens at the Pickard Theater on Wednesday, June 6th and runs until June 23rd. Ticket prices range from $36 to $59.

The all-new Australian production of one the most successful American Broadway musicals of all time, A CHORUS LINE is currently playing in Singapore at Marina Bay Sands, and will play at Sydney's Capitol Theatre for 21 performances only beginning 20 July, 2012. Having played to full houses in Adelaide and Melbourne, this iconic smash hit musical is directed and re-staged by Baayork Lee, one of the original cast members and inspirations from the Tony Award® winning 1975 production. Today in 2002, Sweet Smell of Success opened at the Martin Beck Theatre (now the Al Hirschfeld Theatre), where it ran for 109 performances. Created by Marvin Hamlisch (music), Craig Carnelia (lyrics), and John Guare (book), the show is based on the 1957 movie of the same name. It tells the story of a powerful newspaper columnist named J. J. Hunsecker (based on famed New York columnist Walter Winchell) who uses his connections to ruin his sister's relationship with a man he deems inappropriate. The show starred John Lithgow as J.J. Hunsecker, and Brian d'Arcy James as Sidney Falcone.

For Idina Menzel's new PBS special and cd, 'Idina Menzel Live: Barefoot at the Symphony' she sings the classic Broaway song 'Tomorrow' from the musical ANNIE, which will return to Broadway in late 2012. Though she has never been in this show, Idina performs the song as a beautiful close to her show.

Today in 1979, They're Plaing Our Song opened at the Imperial Theatre, where it ran for 1082 performances. With a book by Neil Simon, lyrics by Carole Bayer Sager, and music by Marvin Hamlisch, the musical is based on the real-life relationship of Hamlisch and Sager- a wisecracking composer finds a new, offbeat lyricist, but initially the match is not one made in heaven. The two undergo a series of trials and overcome a number of hurdles before finding true love by the final curtain. They're Playing Our Song is essentially a two-character show. Vernon and Sonia are the sole characters on stage; each character has a three-person Greek chorus acting as their inner voices, and there are no big production numbers.
