The program is known for its combination of Jim Henson's Muppets, animation, short films, humor, and cultural references. The program was conceived in 1966 during discussions between Cooney and Morrisett. The series premiered on public television stations on November 10, 1969 to positive reviews. By its 40th anniversary in 2009, Sesame Street was the fifteenth-highest rated children's television show in the United States. |
