Justin Paul and Benj Pasek have won the 2017 Tony Award for Best Original Score (Music and/or Lyrics) Written for the Theatre for Dear Evan Hansen. They were previously nominated for the original score of 2013's A CHRISTMAS STORY: THE MUSICAL. Earlier this year, the duo won an Academy Award for Best Original Song for LA LA LAND's 'City of Stars' They were also nominated for the song 'Audition' from the film.

The announcement of today's Tony Award nominations marks this as a week for celebration and reaffirms the commitment of organizations that protect the survival of the arts. For those organizations, like the Dramatists Guild Fund (DGF), that commitment likely means shouldering a larger burden of funding and support. Today's celebration also coincides with the launch of the latest installment of 'The Legacy Project: Volume III' from DGF, featuring one of Broadway's best known and loved composers/lyricists, Stephen Schwartz, chatting with Jeanine Tesori (Fun Home) about storytelling through song. The Dramatists Guild Fund celebrates the 1 Year Anniversary of The Music Hall, decorated by Robert Hartwell of BroadwayWorld's Broadway Quick Change. The Music Hall is a free space in the city for writers to create and present new work. Officially opened in April 2015 during the tenure of DGF President Gretchen Cryer, The Music Hall has been a resource to 1,500 dramatists for writing groups, readings, workshops, panels, and private writing time.

The Kleban Foundation recently announced the winners of its 26th annual Kleban Prize for the most promising musical theatre lyricist -- Stacey Luftig -- and its 26th annual Kleban Prize for the most promising musical theatre librettist -- Daniel Goldstein. Since its inception, Kleban Prize winners have been selected by judging panels comprised of the theatre's most respected artists and administrators. The judges making the final determination this year were two-time Tony Award-winning actress Judith Ivey, Michael Price (Former Executive Director, Goodspeed Musicals), and Andrew Zerman (Casting Director and Vocal Coach).
