It’s officially summer stock season! Kicking off my favorite time of the year is Broadway at Music Circus’ production of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. Its Broadway premiere in 2014 garnered seven Tony Award nominations, with two wins for Best Leading Actress and Best Sound Design. While I tend to have a healthy reservation of jukebox musicals, Beautiful puts that to rest with its strappy pace, feel-good music, and message of empowerment.

June is bustin' out all over! This month, Broadway fans can kick off their summer vacation with a slew of new releases featuring some Broadway favorites, including Neil Patrck Harris, Sarah Jessica Parker, Bernadette Peters, Jinkx Monsoon, Will Chase, and more.

The limited series is starring and executive produced by Tom Holland. Featuring an ensemble cast led by Holland, the series also stars Amanda Seyfried, Emmy Rossum, Sasha Lane, Will Chase and Lior Raz along with guest stars Jason Isaacs, Christopher Abbott, Thomas Sadoski and Zachary Golinger. BIRDLAND JAZZ CLUB will present internationally acclaimed pianist and composer Jason Yeager – celebrating his recording Unstuck in Time: The Kurt Vonnegut Suite – with an album release concert on Monday, March 27 at 7:00 PM.

BIRDLAND THEATER will present George Abud and Katrina Lenk – who starred together in the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical The Band’s Visit – in “Abud & Lenk: Swung” on Monday, March 6 at 7:00 PM.

BIRDLAND THEATER will present Melissa Errico for a special Valentine’s week engagement of “A Noir Romance” with nine shows from Friday, February 10 through Tuesday, February 14. Performances are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 7:00 PM and 9:30 PM, Monday at 8:30 PM, and Tuesday at 5:30 PM and 8:30 PM.

BIRDLAND THEATER will present Nicolas King – the celebrated pop and jazz vocalist on Thursday, February 9 at 8:30 PM.

Singer-songwriter Ingrid Michaelson brings charm, some pals, and a beautiful concert to Carnegie Hall.

In all, our friends at Carnegie Hall gave us an evening of Christmas joy. The music was warm and familiar and gave the pops audience a peak into the work of a fine singer/composer.
