 La Jolla Playhouse has announced the first five productions of its 2023/2024 season, including the world-premiere musical The Untitled Unauthorized Hunter S. Thompson Musical, music and lyrics by Joe Iconis, book by Joe Iconis and Gregory S. Moss, directed by Tony Award winner Christopher Ashley.

This year, the Northwestern Dolphin Show will be presenting Roald Dahl's Matilda the Musical, a musical about a young child gifted with telekinesis, a love of reading, and the strength to overcome obstacles thrown at her and her peers. Produced by Arella Flur, Daniel Maton, and Rachel Schmaier, directed by Lucy Harrington, choreographed by Kristen Waagner, and music directed by Kevin Park.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Burry Fredrik Foundation championing the growth and continuing health of Connecticut's non-profit professional producing theaters. Since 2012, the Foundation has granted over $3 million to a dozen Connecticut theaters with a proven track record of accomplishments. In 2022, $500,000 will be awarded. The Foundation was established by Burry Fredrik (1925-2012), a Tony Award-winning producer and noted director, who lived in Weston, CT.
