BWW Review: BWW Award Winner and Tony Winning Jersey Boys Star JOHN LLOYD YOUNG Continues to Rock Sterling's Upstairs at the Federal
by Don Grigware - Dec 28, 2016

Actor/singer John Lloyd Young, best known for his Tony-winning portrayal of Frankie Valli in the original Broadway musical Jersey Boys and for his performance in the 2014 film, performs monthly at Sterling's Upstairs at the Federal. Like all the other shows, his December 27th performance was sold out, with fans from around the globe coming out to hear his incredible voice and to purchase his solo CD My Turn. It is absolutely amazing to see how enthusiastically the fans respond to his first entrance onstage, and how they scream and stand up after many of the show's songs. He is revered and idolized almost as much as yesteryear's Elvis or Michael Jackson. And the ladies present...I am happy to say, are not that young. They are middle age and up, some in their 60s and 70s. These ladies whoop it up and jump to their feet and feel the music. Yeah!

BWW Review: After a Slow Start, Former JERSEY BOYS Star John Lloyd Young's New Café Carlyle Show Builds to An Enjoyable Crescendo
by victoria ordin - Feb 11, 2016

Performing at the Cafe Carlyle for his fourth time, John Lloyd Young sashayed to the stage on his Tuesday opening night wearing leather and aviator glasses, and with the swagger one would expect from the performer who originated the role of Frankie Valli in Jersey Boys in 2005 (Young became the only American actor to win the Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, and Theater World Awards for a Broadway debut). Fresh off performances at the Kennedy Center, the White House, and Clint Eastwood's humble California abode-and of course his role in the Eastwood directed film adaptation of the improbable Broadway hit-Young combined familiar material from the 1960s with original songs written with his multi-talented musical director, Tommy Faragher (Glee) in his new show, Yours Truly.

by Stephen Sorokoff - Feb 10, 2016

Last night, having won critical praise for his previous Cafe Carlyle residencies, Tony Award-winner John Lloyd Young returned with an all-new show titled Yours Truly, and BroadwayWorld was there. After seeing his first appearance at the storied venue, where he performed selections from his debut album My Turn, Stephen Holden of The New York Times said Young 'has a disciplined one-in-a-million high tenor shading into falsetto that he can direct through the stratosphere.' Upon his second residency, Mr. Holden praised Young for '[tapping] into the raw feelings and intensity of a teenage romantic dreaming out loud.' Yours Truly, his first engagement back in NYC since starring in Clint Eastwood's Jersey Boys film, will feature a fresh set of lushly romantic '60s-era R&B ballads and a few brand new songwriting collaborations. Performances will take place Tuesday through Saturday. Reservations made by phone at 212.744.1600 are $85 ($135 for premium seating, $55 for bar seating) Tuesday-Thursday; and $95 ($150 for premium seating, $65 for bar seating) on Friday and Saturday. Cafe Carlyle is located in The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel (35 East 76th Street, at Madison Avenue).
